“Where else in the world can you jump on the back of a trailer and get towed along the beach by a 1949 Minneapolis-Moline tractor to a bird colony?” Established in 1952, Gannet Beach Adventures has a long history of providing tours on a spectacular stretch of the Hawke’s Bay coastline, from Clifton to Cape Kidnappers. This unique, fun eco-experience tour involves travel with local experienced guides by vintage tractors and trailers on a comfortable four-hour adventure to the largest mainland gannet colony in the world. Departing on the days’ low tide, visitors travel by tractor and trailer along the majestically rugged coastline. Photographic opportunities abound as stops are made throughout the journey giving visitors an insight into how nature’s forces have shaped this amazing area.

We did this trip because everyone said it was a must do adventure while in the Hawke’s Bay - specifically this company, travelling down the beach behind the tractors. We were sceptical - especially our 10 and 12 year olds. But within five minutes the...More

A trip not to be missed, so much so that I did this twice in several days - an evening trip at 5.30pm to catch the sunset and then again on a early morning trip. Both were great from start to finish with interesting facts...More

A great day out from the moment we hopped on the tractor trailers. Our driver/guide was Murray and he was informative with the right amount of kiwi humour. Beautiful scenery, nice and bumpy and lots to learn about the cliffs and fault lines. The walk...More

This is a great day out. Lots of fun travelling by tractor - just remember the sunscreen as there is no shade on the trip. The ride is comfortable enough and the scenery is magnificent. There is plenty of time to walk up to the...More

Hi - thanks for your question. The walk to the top colony is optional - we have a colony of gannets located on the beach so you don't miss out on seeing the birds if you can't or don't wish to do the walk. The tractors... More
