We did the platypus experience tour in May 2017 with our guide Phil. We just paid 10 AUD the tour. We spent a little bit more than a hour at the river. And we saw actually platypuses. Amazing little animals!
Tour is highly recommended.

Apart from the word "platypus" on the axemen hall of fame sign, and the giant platypus out the back, we found next to nothing about a platypus and had effectively no experience.
If they at least advertised tours, it might help.
