Off the beaten track, so not many other visitors. This is nothing like the Angkor Way complex, it is much smaller, the temples are not as restored and are much smaller. This is truly in the Cambodian forest. The pyramid is incredible and the view from the top is with the 167 steps. Thoroughly interesting and incredible journey.

Preah Vihear is a 9th century Hindu temple built before the Angkor temples and later converted to Buddhism. This is the most holy Buddhist site in Cambodia and can be busy with mostly Cambodian visitors on government holidays. It is about 200 kilometers away from Siem Reap on the border of Cambodia and Thailand. Because of the distance from Siem Reap, there are very few tourists. I didn't see a single one until near the end of my visit. The temple is on top of a 525-meter (1,722-foot) cliff with amazing views of Cambodia and Thailand.

The Preah Khan temple in Kampong Svay is currently located in Ta Seng village, Ranasir commune, Sangkum Thmey district, Preah Vihear province. To reach this temple area, we have to travel from Siem Reap City on National Road 6 to Stong District, which is 90 km away and turn north along Route 62 for another 70 km, then we will go To the area of Preah Khan Kampong Svay (so the total length from Siem Reap to Preah Khan Kampong Svay is 160 km). However, if we travel along the ancient route of Angkor (Yasodharapura) along the foot of Phnom Kulen (Mahendrapura) through the temple of Beng Mealea, heading to Khvav commune (Chi Kreng district) is only 105 km. In particular, if we travel from Phnom Penh, the distance is about 294 km.

Called Preah Khan Kampong Svay because the main gate to the Bakan temple was designed in the same style as the Preah Khan temple of the Vong Thom group in Angkor National Park. The word "Kampong Svay" due to the location of the temple during the French colonial period is located in Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. That is why it is called “Preah Khan, Kampong Svay until today. Although the location is now in Sangkum Thmey district, Preah Vihear province. The location of Preah Khan, Kampong Svay covers an area of 5 km square with a total of 35 temples and tourists can visit only 13 places.
As for the construction of Preah Khan, Kampong Svay, starting from the reign of King Sovarman I (889-910)
And continued until the reign of Jayavarman VII (1181-1220). Because Preah Khan Kampong Svay is a strategic point

Of the Angkor Empire in the production of steel to serve the needs of the Kingdom to develop, such as the production of weapons for Equipment used for processing small sculptures, copper, iron, gold, silver, etc. ” Preah Khan Kampong Svay is also a training center The army for the expansion of the territory, as a temple for the study of social morality, and as an area for the unification of religions than the Brahmins and the Buddha to deepen the descendants of the Angkorian period, as well as strengthen the belief in Khmer society on the theory of the landlord. Manage, care, give glory, coolness, prosperity to the kingdom.

Since Preah Khan, Kampong Svay, was a place to produce weapons for the army, Jayavarman VII chose a place to gather troops to drive the Cham army out of Angkor Thom in 1181. It was also the place where he regrouped his army during the year 1200 AD to wage war to avenge the Cham kingdom until he captured the Cham kingdom as a vassal state of the Khmer Empire. Preah Khan, Kampong Svay is also the area that he chose as a place to stay for treatment when he was old.highly recommend to see those places.
