Very nice historical place. Reach very early as possible , to find Car parking if you travel by car. Taking your car in and out of the parking takes more than an hour. We found a share auto ( a three wheeler ) who took us (party of 6) to all the main spots ( 10 of them ) for a reasonable price. They were all less than a KM apart and spread only in 3 or 4 spots. But walking in the sun makes your tired and can avoid that . Sea Shell Museum is a must. Its a private museum and has entry fee. But worth it. Don't miss it.

An iconic tourist destination in a very small town . It witness the century old monuments everywhere around the town. Because the monuments are situated with some amount of distance to one another. But entry ticket is common for all the monuments.
There tourist guides are available to know the story of the temples but I went on my own .Because I had a book and a map of the town and monuments.
Ample numbers of accommodations are available around the city which starts from homestay to luxury hotels choose according to your budget.
Lots of restaurants are there inside the town but still a bit lack for vegetarian gourmets.
I had just only one bad experience on selecting a sandals on beach. Near beach I purchased a leather sandal ( SO CALLED ) near shore temple. That was looks good and he said it is a pure leather and handmade since I am not aware to distinguish the difference between leather and thick paper. It was very attractive and fully polished in brown to hide the quality of the sandal. He said it 650 ( but if you negotiate will give for even 300)
I made a bargain and paid 500. I just used it for 3 days and I surprised that there was a thick papper like ( board ) attached inside. This is my only advice and never think of buying this. Rest all a great experience.

The another coastal town pandycherry is approximately 106 km from here. But still lot's things to see around mamallapuram like tiger cave, crocodile bank, dakshin Chitra, eagle mountain and etc.
Hope my review would be helpful for future travelers..enjoy and keep traveling 🙂.

The panch rathas are examples of monolithic architecture of cutting from rocks. They should not be missed.

So surreal to see this rock perched on a hill.... if you are visiting I suggest going early to avoid the heat. It is quite impressive so worth a visit esp if the other monuments in the area are of interest.

The crocodile bank is quite a nice play for nature lovers. There are hundreds of crocodiles, snakes and turtles in this conservation centre. The maintenance is pretty good.

The Sea Shells museum as well as the others at the site (the Minerals Museum, the Pearl Museum, the Aquarium and Nassa the Dinosaur museum) were all fantastic. Everyone in the group including my niece & nephew who are 10 years to 18 years old as well as the adults (30 to 75 years old) enjoyed the museum. The collection in each museum far exceeded our expectations. The facility, the display and description are world class. It took about 1.5 hours to cover all the museums. Absolutely worth it. Kudos to the founder Mr Raja Mohammad for his vision and keeping it so affordable for everyone that would visit Mahabalipuram. "Most underrated and fascinating collection" - in the words of an 18 years old visiting from California.

If you have read prior or having handy reference than spend some time to corelate as the wall says so much. So rather than just clicking pic try to identify all significant carvings

Unlike most of historical places it does not have direct connection with Mahabharat characters.. But Kings of Pallav Dynasty have built these types of monuments on the basis of stories from Epic..For kids and lifetime learners it is worth visiting
