Messaged shortly after booking and arranged pickup. Showed up early and had guide to help tour the market. Helpful vendors allowed for a lot of tastings, freebies. Good place to grab all your touristy magnets, shirts,
etc. Couldn't ask for more for the price.

Don Alexander is a great guy. However, this excursion is nothing more than a $5 taxi ride to be sold to. It is not a cigar shop, but your typical Caribbean shop selling trinkets with an 8 foot sections of cigars that were actually made in the store, as well as fake Cuban cigars, but he is honest about them being fake. There is someone rolling cigars in the shop that you can watch, but I do not believe he speaks english. So you only get to watch him make them. Looking at the description of the tour now, I may have had expectations that were different than what they should have been.

Anyways, Don will give you a free cigar that the cigar roller made, which was actually very good. And then he will proceed to sell you some cigars. He started out trying to sell me 100 cigars, which would last me many many years. I did enjoy the stick he gave me, so I purchased 25 cigars from him for $7 per and we also bought some gifts for family back home.

I did smoke one cigar after I got home, and it was full strength. The rest will sit in my humidor for a while before I try another. If they are good, Don said we can order again over the phone and he will ship them to us, which I may end up doing.

Just know exactly what to expect when you go. We left the resort that was 30 minutes away at 9:30 and returned back to the hotel at 12. Our resort is far away so we were unable to get trinkets and gifts anywhere else, so this was well worth it to us. This is an extremely cheap tour, so if it’s worth it to you to go, then go for it!

This photoshoot was amazing! Our photographer Irina found the best location for us on Macao Beach and we had an amazing photoshoot! The pictures came out so beautiful, especially the colors of the water and greenery, she knows exactly what she is doing and all the angles! If you are looking for a photographer in Punta Cana, Irina is the one!

Run down, no decent shops they are all the same, ended up in supermarkets and driver could not speak English. Firstly we set off for higuey and the van taking us had great air conditioning but as we pulled up to a run down littered street that had no trace of cash flows we got dragged into a little shop without even being asked if we wanted to enter. There are no markets or decent shops instead there are a couple down one street all selling the same items. After this we tried to ask are driver about flee markets etc but ended up going to two supermarkets. Would definitely not book this trip again.

We had a great time on the cruise to Saona Island. While we did have our young boys with us it's probably a trip more suited for adults than kids, although our kids did have a lot of fun. The staff was super friendly and was always making sure you were enjoying yourself. If your main focus is snorkeling you probably want to look at other cruises, but if your main focus is having a good time with music, boats, and rum then I would highly recommend.

Beware - There are no local artisan shops included in the tour. You do go to a market where souvenirs made in China are sold and a few paintings in the back area. It was worthy to note that you had a sticker added to your jacket when you got off the bus. We thought this was so that the tour company would get a % of sales. We bought - nothing.

The cigar demonstration was fine - two women demonstrated how the inner cigar is rolled and then later the outer layer applied. It was a shopping opportunity for cigar smokers. The adjacent chocolate shop was just a chance to buy locally made chocolate. While it looked like chocolates were made in the shop, not on the morning we were there.

There was a little river ride with not much to see on either side of the river. It went a couple of kilometres in one direction then turned around and returned to the starting point. Still, it was nice to get away from the resort for a couple of hours and see some of the countryside.

The trip to Casa de Campo and the amphitheatre would have been more interesting if the guide had taken any time to explain the significance of the location and of the school. He was glib and to entertain himself spent time humming and singing and occasionally shouting out a word or two. Yes, he could talk in English, Spanish, French and German but what he told us was so little that it seemed we could have had a sheet of paper with the information. We did look up the site on Google when we got back and found out all kinds of interesting things he could have told us.

Finally, the trip to the Jumbo in La Romana was interesting but it looked like a Target store or any place you buy household goods and food. Other than lunch, most of the people bought nothing here.

It was a disappointing "spree". Two cigars and a bag of cocoa.
