Caverns & Caves
Cayman Crystal Caves is a fascinating nature attraction located in Northside, Grand Cayman, and Cayman's newest tourist attraction. When you visit Cayman Crystal Caves, you will be escorted with a knowledgeable Tour Guide, and join us on an adventure exploration of "Cayman Down Under". You will venture into amazing caves where you'll see stalactite and stalagmite crystal structures and otherworldly formations, formed by single drops of water and the slow passage of time. Tour through the unique rainforest nature, under which the caves formed. Amongst the forest and caves is plenty of plant and animal life including strangler fig trees, air plants, parrots, and bats.... History Cayman Crystal Caves have formed over millions of years. Fossilized shells and animal life in the caves show us that at one time, the mass now containing the caves was all located under the sea. Over time, as sea levels changed and land began to rise, rooms began to form through water erosion, making caves. Within these rooms spectacular stalagmite and stalagtite crystal structures began to form, as rain water dripping through the limestone ceiling of the caves left calcium deposits behind. The caves are still today continuing to evolve. The process of stalagmite and stalagtite formation occurs as rain water becomes slightly acidic when it first travels through surrounding plants, earth and other organic matter. This acidic water disolves part of the limestone as it seeps through the earth, and re-deposits microscopic calcium layers, as the water drips from the cave celings. Over time these deposits collectively form the crystal structures. Hundreds of years ago, Pirates used these caves as hideouts, and also as shelters from the elements, including hurricanes. As the Cayman Islands became populated, locals used the surrounding lush lands as farmlands, and mined the caves for rich fertilizer produced by bat guana, as some of the caves are inhabited by bats. In the last half century farming stopped, as the population switched to more lucrative jobs within the tourism and financial sectors. In the early 1990s, Christian and Ole Sorensen undertook an in depth search and exploration of all caves in the Cayman Islands, and began talks with the Cayman Islands government on developing a cave attraction based on the experience from the family's development of the very successful Harrison's caves in Barbados. After a few years, it was realized that the crystal caves of Old Man Bay were extremely unique and stood above any other caves in the Cayman Islands, and for that matter, most of the world. It took almost another two decades to purchase the various parcels which encompasses the caves and surrounding rain forest, as well as devise a route to the landlocked site from the main road. In the last few years of planning the attraction, Ergun Berksoy and the Berksoy family, who have vast experience in the tourism sector, joined the Sorensen family in this venture and together they have seen Cayman's newest and very exciting tourist attraction to completion.

We are always a little hesitant to book a non-Carnival excursion but this trip exceeded expectations. They were very professional and passionate about what they do. The captain and his mates were all very helpful and demanded respect (which I think is important for tourists, especially American tourists (which we are). We went on the stingray, coral gardens, starfish tour and it was perfect. BEAUTIFUL sites and we even got a free beverage (soda or water) on the boat. High recommend!

Gorgeous water, but just a tad too congested once the cruisers arrive! Water is packed with people. Two chairs and an umbrella are $30 US not bad but, a 12 oz pina coloda is $20US! It was great for a one day experience, but then we chose to stay on the south end of SMB outside of our Airbnb for no crowds and convenience!

This is a small gem of a place. We got there by taxi, the best way to go. We started with a tasting that included most of their products. We really enjoyed their 7 Fathoms rum. Their other rums and liqueurs were delicious as well. We were then given a tour of the distillery.
There was, of course, an opportunity to buy their products but there was no pressure to do so. And, they let us know how we could get their rum in the states.
The young man leading the tour was friendly and outgoing. Everyone there made sure we felt welcome.
If you are interested in spirits, it is a great place to try.

We went to this park to visit the blue iguanas. We had a tour with Hal which was fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable about the history, plants, and animals. There are a large number of beautiful plants and you will see several blue iguanas roaming the grounds in addition the the ones present in the conservation center.

The only thing to keep in mind is the park is about 45 minutes from seven mile beach so you need a rental car or arrange for a taxi to take you and pick you up before hand and that can be a bit expensive.

Loved this place! Good snorkeling but can get rough around the 2 rock formations because you have water rushing in and out from waves.

A fun thing to do, but probably better with kids. We enjoyed petting a turtle and seeing the croc and birds as well. I appreciate their contribution to ecology.

Beautiful beach, good parking, shower and bathrooms, snorkeling was ok, had to go far out to see anything. Good places for shade on beach, not overly crowded.

Great seeing starfish, lots of tours there, not as many starfish as pictured. Too many people taking the starfish out of the water, leave them in the water and take pictures.

We visited Pedro St. James on our own, and thoroughly enjoyed our tour, which began with a movie regarding the history of the location and inhabitants. Wonderful setting and might enjoy wine and dinner there next time. Definitely worth a visit!

We spent the day. Parking is available, porta potties, picnic tables, shade, chickens. The sand is beautiful, the water clear. The waves were very big today! Not too crowded. Spent some time walking along Seven Mile Beach. Did not attempt snorkeling due to rough water. It was a very enjoyable day.

We dove this wreck with Red Sail Sports as part of a two tank dive. Fantastic dive. We got to enter the wrench and swim down the hallways of the ship. Photo moment at the wheel of the ship. Great experience.
