Our day trip to Tobago Cays on the Friendship Rose was the highlight of our holiday to Bequia.
From the moment we arrived to board the Rose, George and his crew were exceptionally welcoming and professional. Everything was explained beautifully and we were made to feel so welcome. During the trip over, each of the crew moved around the deck, pointing out places of interest and generally being very hospitable. The food was delicious and the additional snacks and drinks were the icing.
The crew were so generous and accommodating and made the snorkelling with turtles so accessible for everyone.
An absolutely brilliant day out and one we won’t forget. Thank you !

Huge thanks to Orville Samuel who was our tour guide in St Vincent on 29th January. Was so knowledgeable and pleasant with a wonderful clean air-conditioned vehicle in which he transported us safely around the island on our wonderful tour. Would thoroughly recommend Orville to anyone needing independent tour services in St Vincent. This tour was one of the highlights of our cruise stops. 😁

    We had a great trip.
The Grenadines lived up to our expectations and we had good sailing despite some challenging conditions with the weather.
The Barefoot base people were warm and friendly, and we had an excellant chart briefing from Philip.
We did encounter some problems with the boat but Thor was very fair and provided a discount that left us satisfied with the whole experience .

If you want to experience Canouan in the best possible way, call Hamlett! Doesn't matter if you just need a transfer, an island tour, hike Mount Royal or explore the sea on a day trip. He is your man. Hamlett was out of town when we arrived in the morning and made sure to fly back earlier so that he could take care of us personally. He is all about caring and making sure you have the best possible experience. I found him through the reviews here on TripAdvisor and have to leave one myself since he is not only a super kind, respectful and funny person, we also had an unforgettable experience because of him and his services. Highly recommend!

Charter Yacht Trip to St Lucia, St Vincent, and the Grenadines (August / September 2020)

We went on a sail charter with Dream Yacht Charters from August 22. 2020 through September 2, 2020 with generally good but sometimes mixed results. The sail started in St. Lucia and continued to St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands. Because these islands are controlled by two different government, you need to be versed on each of the respective government needs, especially around COVID 19 testing procedures. St Lucia is by far the stricter government, while St. Vincent and the Grenadine are laxer once you satisfy their needs.

I would say to study the Government websites and Government Tourist Bureau websites. They you will need to know that the information will change or be interpreted differently once you arrive. General Covid test results and permission to enter their waters is done online ahead of time. The basic differences are that St. Lucia will let you into the country if you have taken a Covid test within 7 days of arrival (and you have negative results). Before arriving, in St Lucia, we had received emails from the Tourist website indicating we could provision our boat, but that was not the case. St. Lucia requires that you quarantine for 14 days, which you can do on the yacht while traveling around outside of St. Lucia waters. You cannot reenter the St. Lucia general population during this 14-days quarantine period. Not even for provisioning at the beginning or during your trip. All supplies must be delivered to your yacht. Massey is the store to use as they are helpful and have well stocked stores.

Once you check out the boat in St. Lucia and clear the boat for exiting St. Lucia waters (this is done prior to leaving port), you have 24 hours to leave St. Lucia waters. Since you cannot go ashore in any case, we now feel we would have just skipped St. Lucia and gone directly to St. Vincent and picked up the boat there in Blue Lagoon Marina where Dream Yacht Charters has an office.

The Government website for St. Vincent and the Grenadines (St. Vincent) indicated that they would accept Covid 19 test results taken 5 days before arrival. When we presented these documents on Monday afternoon, we were informed that everyone needed to retake their government test prior to clearing customs and enter St. Vincent waters. We then needed to wait for the test results before we were released. For the four of us on the boat, it was USD $60 each for the test, a Customs fee, and a fee for handling which all totaled around USD $350. Once we received our test results, we were free to enter the general population on the islands and we traveled freely.

Unfortunately, testing had been completed for Monday when we arrived it and the next testing day was Wednesday. We booked the appointment for 9:30 AM at their facility in the Blue Lagoon Harbour (currently the only testing location) and had our negative results back on Thursday morning. The testing procedure was completely professional, and everyone was polite and helpful. Once the test was completed, we needed to return to our boat and await the results. You cannot go ashore until the results are received. We highly recommend calling St. Vincent Customs - Nicole +1-784-433-9645. She was extremely helpful and can direct you on what days testing is being completed. You can then arrange what days to arrive to minimize you lost time waiting for test results. Nicole made certain our test results were completed swiftly and reported them back to us at 9:30 AM Thursday morning. We were then free to leave Blue Lagoon and enter the general population of St. Vincent.

Lessons learned. Next time we would skip St. Lucia and pick the yacht up in St. Vincent. Go through their testing procedures and depart from there. You really do not get to spend much time in St. Lucia waters anyway (24 hours). You pick up several days of travel (1 day each way between St. Lucia and St. Vincent) and can see more of the amazing island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. If you want to see St. Lucia, you can take the ferries between the islands. You also need to check to see if you need another seven-day Covid test to reenter St Lucia once we finished St. Vincent. We used the test taken in St. Vincent and submitted that one to the St. Lucia government when we were returning to drop off the boat, but it was never clear if it was necessary since were stayed within what is called the “bubble” (the surrounding island nations).

When we returned to St. Lucia, we stayed 3 nights at the Sugar Beach Resort (fabulous place). We were under lock and key in the Rodney Bay Marina once we returned and only allowed to leave (with a transfer wrist bands) when local customs let us out. This ended up being about 90 minutes after the agreed upon time and we could only use a certified Covid Taxi Driver. We used Lawrence (+1-758-723-3488). Lawrence has a minivan which is useful for more than 2 people. We used him three times, from the airport to the marina, from the marina to the Sugar Beach Resort, and from Sugar Beach to the airport. On our fourteenth vacation day, while we were at a resort in St. Lucia, we received a call that we were free to roam the island. Unfortunately, this was the day we were headed back to the US.

Dream Yacht Charters. The boat itself was in decent condition, but not superb condition considering it was only 2 years old. We had a very experienced captain as one of our party and he was able to identify issues before we left port (like the dinghy engine did not work) and the wind and depth monitors needed reset. These issues were mostly because the boat had not been chartered since March. Brandon at the St. Lucia office was helpful and knowledgeable about the boat. He also provided some information about the Covid situation on the island but was less helpful in that area (but not his area of expertise). Brandon was very responsive to any questions or issues that we might have. The Chart briefing was also useful before we commenced our sailing trip. Our boat had air conditioning and a water maker, and we all agreed these were essential. Also, many of the hotels / restaurants, taxis, boat charters, etc. use the phone app “WhatsApp”. I would suggest using this as well since communication is sometimes difficult.
