Short Review:
I called Mazatlán Van Tours and set up rides to and from the airport and two private tours (La Noria and Stone Island). Jay was very helpful setting all that up (see more below). Carlos was our driver. He was funny, informative, entertaining and professional. I highly recommend Mazatlán Van Tours.
Longer Review:
I know that it's pretty common to find people in Mexico, and Mazatlán in particular, that are very helpful, but this was above and beyond.
I was planning a vacation to Mazatlán with a friend who's in a motorized wheelchair. There aren't any wheelchair accessible ramp vans for rent, so I looked for a tour company that had a ramp van that could take us back and forth from the airport to our hotel in Olas Altas. I couldn't find any online that claimed they had ramp vans, so I called a few. Jay at Mazatlán Van Tours said that they used to have a lift, but it broke a while ago, and with the pandemic, they hadn't been able to get it fixed. He then explained that he knew pretty much all of the other tour companies and offered to call around. He called me back a few hours later and said that nobody had a ramp van.
My friend and I discussed our options, all of them pretty bad, and decided to call Mazatlán Van Tours again and see what it would cost to get the lift fixed. Jay agreed to get a quote, but when they took the lift to the shop, the mechanic said it couldn't be fixed. Jay then offered to shop around for a ramp. I told him how long it had to be and the weight it had to support, and he found some, but they were all too far away to be practical. Jay then found a company that would make a custom ramp and attach it to the van. He called with the quote, we agreed, but time was short, so Jay agreed to pay for the ramp up front and trust us to pay when we got there. The ramp was installed on the van two days before we arrived, and it worked perfectly - a beautiful piece of custom Mexican craftmanship.
I was really impressed by the effort Mazatlán Van Tours put into making our vacation possible. It was even more impressive considering that it took place from mid-February to late April, meaning that they were busy with Carnaval, Semana Santa, etc. and still took the time to make one of their vans accessible. Needless to say, we'll definitely be using Mazatlán Van Tours on our next trip.
