This second visit we took a taxi from elsewhere that left us a few steps away from this view. I'd previously climbed up the stairs wondering if we're on the right path. In any case, this is a must for any visit to Guanajuato. The Pipila monument itself is an attraction you can climb up a narrow staircase to reach a view from the flame. For those less inclined, the view itself does the climb justice. I'd definitely do it again for future visits, and hang out up there and snack/drink to enjoy the view.

The main plaza in the center of the city - naturally a tourist hot-spot. There were at least two mariachi bands playing at any given time.
The "estudiantes" are a singing/story-telling act that happen at least twice a night - and their ticket sellers, dressed in the 1600's costumes, will constantly try and sell a ticket to you. I'll see if I can write a separate review about this show, but I recommend it even if you don't speak Spanish. Be warned - they will try and get you to spend even more money along the way.
You will not be able to sit in a quiet spot at this Jardin - it's teeming with tourists and mariachi bands, and people selling things. Good for people watching and the energy of the main plaza in a tourist district.

The university building catches everyone’s attention. As we passed by, there was a graduation celebration going on with all proud students with families.

This is one of those, "if you're in __________________, you have to do it" kind of things. Kiss your honey while each stands at either side of the narrow alley. You can do that for free, although you might have to wait for other tourists to get their photos taken. Or, you can pay someone to take you up to the actual balconies from which, legend has it, young lovers reached across to kiss over the alley. Most interesting is a sign that apparently offers to provide, for a fee, a companion to kiss if you don't already have one. Apparently, the fee is higher the more intimate you want the kiss to be.

The landmark of the main plaza in Guanajuato. Always filled with people and actions. The beautiful colour fits perfectly in the scenic plaza.

The building alone is worth the visit. Knowing a little Spanish, I was able to understand most of the descriptions. It made me want to know more about the history of Mexico and its independence from Spain. I enjoyed the exhibit of an early 1900's photographer.

This is a beautiful place with fantastic gardens especially the cactus. There are so many different varieties. The gardens are so peaceful. Don't miss this place. It's just a short uber ride from the city center.

Very nice small museum with art works related to Don Quijote. One may think that is a narrow subject for a museum but it is surprisingly diverse and very interesting. The building that houses the collection is also very beautiful.

Museum was Diego Rivera's home when he was younger which gives it much more meaning. I wish it had more of his murals to view. He was a gifted painter and loved seeing his wife Freda in photos. Wish there were more of them. Recommend you go if you are in Guanajuato.

The statue and the inside of the small building. That is all there is to see here. I was not super impressed but I had a few hours to kill. Took a tour bus up there from the Basilica in the historic center of Guanajuato. Round trip was about 3 hours and cost 150 pesos (or was it 100?). Anyway, take a freaking jacket! The larger building, the inside of which we did not see, kinda resembled a corn on the cob. I did think it was cool the crown of thorns which encircled the entire ceiling of the dome upon which Jesus stands. There is also a much smaller crown of gold inside the apex of the dome. Make sure you walk to the retaining wall to enjoy the mountaintop view. Not a must, but it's a very non-overwhelming activity if that is what you need at the moment and during the bus ride you can see some sights along the way.

It was a guided tour, but only in Spanish. It would be nice if they offered an English version. The tour guides started to overlap towards the end and it was very loud and distracting.
