We were unable to go into the buildings but make sure you walk around them for the excellent views overlooking the river. There is also a wonderful memorial to the Canadian Police and Peace Officers as well as a bell that was taken from the ruins of the clocktower that was destroyed in 1916.

Extremely educational, from a thorough Canadian history perspective. Canadian militaries have always found themselves in a "support" role, but have paid the ultimate sacrifice just as much as the parties they are "supporting". The military hardware section is amazing. After being in this museum, I have come to appreciate the efforts Canada has made in promoting world peace, despite having to take up arms to achieve that goal. The world is a better place because of Canada's global efforts. This is a must see museum, regardless of one's viewpoint towards the use of force; both hawks and doves can learn a lot within these four walls.

The canal walk is lovely even in April on a cold day with some ice on the canal still. We walked the pathway from Lansdowne back into the city centre and enjoyed the scenery along the way. There were not many others out walking but a few runners and cyclists passed us so seems to be popular with them. We were fascinated by the entryways set up for when the canal is frozen and ice skating takes place.

Walkable to Parliament, the Byway Market, War Memorial. N other words downtown Ottawa. The museum had many Masters painters well displayed. It was quiet with plenty of time to see the artwork. The Museum store was one of the best I’ve visited. It had much to choose from with unique kid’s items. The pricing to get into the museum and in the gift shop were reasonable.

My husband and I loved visiting this museum on our trip to Ottawa. It's so well done! It has some interactive exhibits for the kids (which we loved too :-) ) and is very informative. It's also in an incredibly beautiful building, which made the experience even better. We weren't sure about going, since it meant us taking a car from our hotel, and we prefer to walk, but we're so glad we did! Highly recommend.

Beautiful wee basilica, well worth a visit. Be aware it is closed for services for periods of each day so check and time your visit or you may be like us, missing out the first time and waiting about 15 min the 2nd time because we didn't take note!

My favorite part of the experience was going there at night and seeing the centennial flame with my friends. Its a very big place that shows the history of canada and shows also the architecture of others places like the UK, its a very big and beautiful palace.

Get the tour guide to benefit your visit . Go early in the morning to avoid crowd and enjoy the simulators. Buy your souvenirs and gifts from the shop, they offer an excellent selection. I will visit again next time I’ll be in Ottawa

I had no plans to go here but after a week of meetings, my Ottawa stroll led me here. I have to say that I was very lucky that my walk took me this way as it is an excellent place to visit.
The staff are all friendly, the history is rich, varied, balanced and relevant and we were lucky to spend time with Stewart, a veteran with a library of great stories.
The museum is educational and emotional and as a veteran, it underlines the sacrifices that brave men and ladies have made over the centuries and continue to do so. Makes me very humble.

I wasn't sure quite what to expect from a tour as the website doesn't give much away and there are no photographs to give you an idea, but was absolutely fascinated by the processes that we were shown as we made our way along a high level enclosed walkway that looks down on the factory floor.

There are video screens along the route that the tour guides can use to show the processes that go on here, but we were lucky to be visiting on a day when so much was going on and these proved unecessary in many spots along the route. We could workers in their safety gear; bars and gold coils being lifted by machinery; and an array of stamping, sorting and quality checking processes. So much better than the website hinted at.

The guided tour also highlights some of the output in displays along the route, including special issue coins and medals. It was impressive to see the list of countries that the Royal Canadian Mint produce coins for. Overall, this was absolutely fascinating and the tour is well worth booking.

There are a series of steep, step-like locks between the Parliament Buildings and the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel. You can get a good view from the bridge where there is also information about the Rideau Canal. You can also go down and walk beside the locks and watch the boats going through.

Had no concept of Governor General's role in Canada before visiting this place.
    Put this place as "optional."
When approaching its compound, saw a statute of the late Queen Elizabeth II riding on a horse at the front entrance, and securities guards in all gates.
It's near the residence of the Canadian Prime Minister.

Decided to visit this place before leaving Ottawa and very glad to have done it. Otherwise, it would be a big "miss." Through this visit, I learned that:

    * Governor General represents the British Monarch, in Canada.
    * This is the place where Governor General officially appoints the Canadian Prime Minister on behalf of the British Monarch.
    * Rideau Hall is like the White House in the United States or Buckingham Palace in UK.
    * This is the official residence of the Canadian Governor General

Still unsure if there are public visitor parking inside the compound. There is street parking along MacKay St. You will walk through a huge park-like area before reaching the Rideau Hall. You will go through the security check.

There is at least one staff in each room, and they will provide commentaries about the rooms. Emmalyn, Gabriel, Emy, and Ryan were knowledgeable and able to answer most questions.

Rideau Hall itself has rich history other than its significance in representing the British Monarch in Canada.

Unlike long wait time (at least three months in advance) and tight security (background check required) for visiting the White House in the United States, there is no advanced reservation required and the visit is free for Rideau Hall.

After the visit, I would change this place from "optional" to "must see."

This was a nice out of the way excursion in Ottawa, on the Ontario side. You would need a car to get there, but it was worth the trip. There is a park on either side of the falls, so walking, picnicking, biking etc, are all possibilities.

The park is lovely and spacious on the sunny days but at the northern tip are the best free washrooms in Ottawa. Great views from the park

I cannot rave enough about this place.

1st - it has free admission.
2nd - it is contemporary and 100% interactive for all family members.
3rd - it is extremely informative.
4th - the staff are phenomenal (especially the gentleman who personally toured us through the development and history of Canadian currency/bank notes display, and the counterfeit efforts).
5th - the exhibits do not disappoint
    6th - excellent, central location
7th - the approach to Security does not make one feel like they are at an airport.

With so much to do in the Capital City, this was a top highlight!!!!
