Well worth a visit. Graham, our guide was very informative and made the whole experience fun. He had some wonderful tales to tell from his time as a prison office, it really brought the whole experience to life. Would recommend this tour. Good value for money and overall a very interesting experience. Nice little onsite cafe for refreshments following the tour.

The tour exceeded our expectations. Our driver, Francis, was professional, kind, helpful, intelligent, and gracious. He shared stories about the history and culture of all the destinations along the 5 day trip. The acommodations were good and great values with breakfast included. The mini-bus was comfortable, and the driver stops every 2-hrs or so for a bathroom break or lunch. Some highlights included the Iron Bridge, the Slate museum in Wales, the Telford Aqueduct ( a world heritage site), the Peak districts, the Yorkshiire Dales, including many small villages, Chatsworth estate, Lincoln , Cambridge, and more. The visuals along the route were charming with sheep farms, stone walls, hills and valleys.

A good tour around the sights. Plenty of detail. Returned to several locations on finishing to spend more time. There are some great pubs to try out.

This is such a fantastic place that will give you a really good insight into modern day prison life.

We went as a family and choose to do the self guided tour as I didn't think my children would appreciate the structure of a tour, and I think that was the right choice as the execution room was something a bit too gruesome for them. However we overheard some of the guided tour which sounded really interesting and I'd definitely book this if going without children.

I really liked some of the cells they had set up, giving a good insight into prison life in different eras. The prison was also virtually completely open so you can go in nearly every room, which I know would appeal to a lot of people. We didn't use the restaurant but it smelt nice. And all the people we encountered said hello and were polite and friendly.

Having said all of that, I couldn't help but feel that it could and should all work better than it does. This isn't a criticism of what they've achieved but a hope of what I'd like to see improved in the future.

The entrance wasn't inviting and was very plain; a very good representation of most areas of the prison. You then walk into a rather dull gift shop, which you also pass on the way out, and then are free to wander around the prison as you will. There's little direction and you end up walking through unkept corridors and cells with nothing in them. I feel they'd benefit greatly from investing some money and thought into the visitor journey.

There isn't any staff around to interact with at all. I think instead of having a guided and self guided tour, they should have areas that are self guided and then areas where you have a guide or at least someone on hand to ask questions and point things out. A mixed approach would break up the visit and be my preferred way to visit.

Also I'd like to have seen more accounts from past inmates and staff. A couple of videos on loop projected in different cells would add a lot to the experience. My children would have appreciated more hands on and interactive activities. I'm surprised there wasn't anything like fingerprint taking or mug shot photos. The restaurant being tucked away probably also lost them some money as a better sited and more open plan coffee shop would probably have tempted us in for coffee and cake.

Finally, although they have lots of toilets, they're all oddly situated and probably just left over from when it was a prison. A couple of decent toilet blocks would make a big difference.

Having previously done the Chester Walking Tour and enjoying it so much we decided to book the Shrewsbury Tour to celebrate my birthday.
Booking and communication before the day was easy and everything was very well organised.Gareth is interesting knowledgeable and great fun, spending an afternoon in his company is very easy and comfortable.
Our first stop was The Shed. The owners made us feel very welcome, we sampled pierogi and the best hot chocolate that we have probably ever had.
From there we went to Shrewsbury Market passing places of interest between stops. The market was fabulous we were given mouthwatering samples from the deli counter at Wild Street Kitchen then we went upstairs to Gindifferent trying their different gins then choosing our favourite for our drink.
A real unexpected highlight of our day was definitely the small tour of Tanners. We were shown around and given tasters with a cheese board by the delightful Tom, this really was a great addition to the day.
The day was completed with an ice cream at Gelatistry, we had the opportunity to make our own cone and chose an ice cream from their fabulous selection. Perfect end to a perfect day.
It was a great day that we would highly recommend to anyone, so a big thank you from us all to Gareth and we will look forward to trying the Liverpool and Wrexham tours in the future.

We had the best time, it was so interesting and there's something for all ages, the staff were really friendly and I would recommend to anyone.
We done the escape room the 'hole' and we just escaped. Was great fun and officer turner was brilliant and the whole prison and all the facts was a great day out with my family and we all really enjoyed it. We couldn't wait to tell all are family and how time was filmed there and the haunted cell I stepped straight in no fear. The shower rooms the whole place has so much history was incredible if we are ever that way again I would Def go back thank you very much
