St Andrews West Sands Beach is a very beautiful beach, a great place for a relaxing long walk by the sea. I will definitely go there again when in St Andrews.

Brilliant day out for the family. A beautiful park with lots to do for the children. The train and tractor were great fun. The staff are so friendly and kind.

Enjoyed several hours looking round the garden which is generally very well looked after.

Many areas to look at with a very wide variety of plants which are tendered to. The walled garden is definitely worth a visit.

Also a pleasant woodland walk down to the beach and sea (and separate golf course!)

It would be good if the plants were more extensively labelled.

Unfortunately we didn’t have time left to visit the cafe.

    Great value.

This 2 mile long sandy beach is bordered with grassy dunes sprinkled with wildflowers, and fringed with intriguing rock formations - some of which are the remnants of a lush forest that grew here in the late Carboniferous period 310 million years ago. If you know what you’re looking for , plant and insect fossils and tracks can be found here, some in situ. It’s a designated Blue Flag bathing area, and the water is amazingly translucent in places. There’s a spacious ticketed car-park, public toilets and a snack shack, plus as it’s part of the Fife Coastal Path , you can stretch your legs for as long or short as you like.

Such a lovely day here, it’s so peaceful and relaxing. There are lots of areas to sit and watch the world go by. We also saw a red squirrel and a deer while wandering around.

Our extended family of 3 adults and 5 children (ranging from 10 to 6 years old) came here one Thursday in January.

We were visiting the aquarium to entertain the children during the school holidays. My sister has an annual pass whilst my other sister and I paid for day tickets for our families.

We've been to other aquariums around Scotland like Deep Sea World in North Queensferry and the Sea Life Centre in Loch Lomond. This one is smaller but still packed with plenty to see on what would be a half day visit at most (though your ticket gives you access in and out the aquarium all day if you wish to go away and come back in).

We enjoyed the animal talks with the meerkat and penguin feeding the highlights. Due to storm damage to their enclosure, the seals have been relocated to Scarborough for now but we were told they'll be back when their enclosure is remodelled and work is completed.

Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall facility looks well kept and clean, Shop is well stocked with varying prices. Cafe is small but Saints Sizzle burger restaurant next door (see my separate review) is well worth a visit! Perhaps they could do with a covered/indoor seating area for those wishing to have their packed lunch as sometimes attraction catering is not always suitable for some children's tastes and eating times. I suppose if the weather is nice there is outdoor seating or you can go and eat in your car if you have travelled in one to the aquarium.

The price for a visit is high compared to other family attractions but we appreciate how costs have increased for everyone (I can't imagine how much it costs to keep some of the more exotic animals heated!) and we like to support local attractions and would encourage more people to visit to help bring the costs back down again and not just rely on foreign trade. If we stayed closer, we would invest in an annual pass for sure but we have a Blair Drummond Safari Park membership for where we live.

Try not to let the cost put you off and enjoy a visit here.

Always really quite clean and well kept. Good for a stroll along with the kids while inevitably waiting for the swimming pool to open

The castle is currently closed but we were able to walk down to the beach for a paddle. Calm location and a bit cramped, luckily not too busy when we arrived. Lots of places to sit and relax on and off the beach.
