With almost 2 miles of sandy beach backed by protected dunes there’s plenty room for everyone and their dog. This beach is famous for having served as the opening scene for the film “Chariots Of Fire”, and has regularly won the coveted Blue Flag Award. During the summer months the R.N.L.I. serve as lifeguard patrol. The sands are overlooked by the world famous golf-course, and the views all around are very scenic. The only drawback is it can be pretty breezy with a bracing cool wind straight off the sea.

Had a lovely visit, we all enjoyed rock pooling, as the beach has a fair amount of rocks mostly covered with seaweed. We noticed the sea came in fairly rapidly and carefully made a swift exit. Definitely return if we are visiting the area again.

Great beach, even in the winter, dog walking, children's play park. In the spring/summer cafe at the harbour, can sit and watch the world go by, and further along near the children's play park a sandwich/toastie /ice cream shop. Plenty of choice and a great beach with stunning views. Take your own picnic and sit a little further up on the grass.

The castle is currently closed but we were able to walk down to the beach for a paddle. Calm location and a bit cramped, luckily not too busy when we arrived. Lots of places to sit and relax on and off the beach.
