I was working there with my computer, tasted good drinks and had a dinner. Prices are fair but dinner wasn't as tasty as I hoped! Atmosphere was still nice, many interesting people and very good backround music. I have heard that sometimes there are some jazz concerts and many people come to have a chat with friends in the evenings - all the tables were occupied!

Mr. Philippe puts his heart and soul in these exquisite, highly original and beautiful sweets. Each one is a work of art, both in shape and in taste. There is no comparison to it.
You don’t need to die to visit paradise... just pass by Melsensstraat 14. Don’t believe me... go and taste for yourself.

Looking for a place to buy some artisanal chocolate Easter eggs for an Easter breakfast with a friend in Leuven, I was happy to find Chocolaterie Guy Raets-Putseys smack in the centre of town. The eggs were sold by weight and didn’t come cheap but they were well worth the money. Their aroma was mouth-watering and they tasted like heaven.

I very wisely married a Belgium from Leuven. Bad news is he has to stay in Belgium while we wait for his green card to live in Washington, DC. The good news is he comes to visit and always brings me chocolate from this shop. I had the pleasure of meeting the very nice owner when I was in Leuven and trust me, these chocolates are to die for!! Run, don't walk, to this sweet chocolate shop! Alles is helemaal lekker en je zult er geen spijt van krijgen!

Books and coffee is a win-win combination.

The service I've encountered here has always been friendly, cordial, and efficient.

A few downsides: like many cafes in Leuven, the it closes at 18.00 which doesn't give lots of time to enjoy if you have day job. Also, it is a student hub, so many students just take a drink and sit to work for hours, making finding a table always difficult. Furthermore, book selection is limited and (naturally) mostly in Flemish.

Avoid to-go cups: the volume of whatever choice drink they contain is usually much smaller (as much as 50% less) than the "stay-cup" sizes- I unfortunately learned that just yesterday.

A big plus: you always get a chocolate along with your drink! :)

Overall, pleasant and friendly, clean and interesting.

Beautiful but very little shop with a very friendly and cute owner, selling beautiful things but some of them have parisian prices, i.e. very high.

Although Oxfam Bookshop Leuven is a charity bookshop it is very well kept. Apart from Dutch (which is the local language), they sell books in English, German, Spanish, Italian and French. I even found something in Swedish once. Most books are used, but some are new. They are neatly ordered by subject and language and alphabetically so you don’t have to rummage through all the shelves if you are looking for a particular book. Although, on a Saturday visit to Leuven, I also like to browse through the different language sections to see what catches my fancy. On one of my last visits I left with a box containing work of Franz Kafka in German. The price was just too good to resist. The atmosphere in the shop is pleasant and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. You can also drop off books you don't need anymore.

Oxfam Bookshop Leuven is very close to the Old Market (“Oude Markt” in Dutch). If you are looking for a nice place to have a coffee or a spot of lunch, check out Wereldcafé at nearby Joris Helleputteplein.

In the old center of Leuven, surrounded by the restaurants, cafes and bars of the Munstraat and a block away the Oude Markt and Grote Markt, sits one of the most delightful used book stores I know of. This well kept shop is a treasure trove of books, old and new, dealing with the history and culture of Europe. Well selected books on every topic in Dutch, English, German and French fill the shelves floor to ceiling. It is owned by a couple - he is Dutch, she American, who speak all four. It is a great place to pick up a book to read over coffee on a rainy, or sunny, day.

We love thrift shops because you never know what treasures you might unearth while rummaging through their offer of second-hand goods. The ‘Kringwinkel’ (Dutch for Recycling Shop) in Heverlee has nothing of a smelly place full of old junk. It is airy and spacious, clean and well-organised. Pots, pans, china, vases, dishes, cutlery, glassware, books, records, CDs, DVDs, clothes, shoes, bags, etc. are all displaying on tables, racks or shelves. Apart from recycling the store offers job opportunities for disadvantaged jobseekers.

In these Covid-19 times we particularly like the fact that several Kringwinkel shops have a common web shop and are putting up their best items for online auction under uwkringding.be. As purchased items may be picked up at the store or delivered we couldn’t resist the temptation to give it a go, but we didn’t win the auction. It won't stop us trying again.

We love to roam the shelves of this large toy shop, even if we are not looking for anything in particular. There is such a large choice of possible presents for babies, children and nostalgic adults we always find something to buy.
