This was recommended when I booked my taxi from Pai and it was so worth the stop. Upon arrival they asked me if I wanted to bicycle or a tram. I chose the bicycle and they give you a map and send you on your way. It was uncrowded, I think that this might be one of those hidden gems that most tourist don’t know about.

All I can say is it was very spiritual for me and it’s only 20 minutes from Chiang Mai, but you feel like you’re out in the country. They have benches and stops along the way where you can sit and enjoy the view. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Thailand and I’ve been here for two months 🌺

A beautiful experience and if you love quality pottery it is the place to go. Their technique only creates to shades of glaze. A beautiful sage green and a vibrant blue. So much to choose from but so little luggage space. They have a sale section on the left as you come out of the main building which is worth a look. Hopefully we can have more shipped home.

Arrived at the foot of a staircase exactly 1730hrs, had no clue what to expect so climbed 1st staircase. Beautiful Wat, monks, shrines and entire surroundings were glorious and serene. Respectfully wandered about admiringly until we reached the back and saw large Buddha up another staircase which at this stage we were not wanting to climb. It was so hot and humid with no air but we did climb.
You can truly appreciate the mastercraftsmen and tradesman whom built these massive structures. The whole site is incredible. The views and the scenery are spectacular.
My husband and I were the only ones there apart from from a local woman and her young daughter in prayer. They left very soon after we arrived and it was a lonely feeling to be the only 2 people around the blessed site. Very peaceful and serene.
... however, whay most probably do not know that behind the huge Buddha statue atop the stairs is a path that leads on and on. There are structures that get higher and bigger. The skywalk is also there as is Buddha's footprint and finally a large gold shrine. Buddhas footprint interior is still being completed with its gilded motifs and decorative paneling. We were blessed to be able to enter and the artists show us around. He said to date, its been 5 months of interior work; amazing.

The views are 360° in some places. Spectacular!

We visited Doi Saket Hot Spring on a Wednesday morning (20 FEB 2024) and practically had the premises to ourselves. There were ten private rooms in a row which can accommodate one person or a couple. Plus, there are some common pools and a couple of larger private rooms.

As another reviewer wrote; soakers can adjust the temp themselves when filling the tiled pool, and, even leave the hot mineral water trickling to keep it extra and sulfurous smelling.

Private room price was ฿100 per 30 minutes per person. Towels ฿10 each. We spent 1 hour for ฿400 and went maybe 15 minutes over, but no one said anything as it wasn’t busy mid-week. We then reserved 1 hour time slots for traditional Thai full massages after our soak in a nice separate facility reminiscent of a Japanese ryokan. Price was ฿200 per person for a minimum of 1 hour.

Doi Saket Hot Springs is in the countryside with cows and free-range chickens in surrounding pasture. It was very peaceful and relaxing, yet only a 45-minute motorcycle ride from downtown Chiang Mai.

I cycle out here frequently. Recently my wife and I toured around the reservoir and then had lunch at a local restaurant. A good day out.

The variety of beautiful orchids was amazing, a plant lovers heaven. The butterfly area though was a little disappointing, maybe the wrong time of the year but still worth the visit. We also had lunch here, excellent buffet, certainly couldn't leave hungry.

The school have a few guest houses you can rent for 800 thb including breakfast  for 2 persons . As the school is situated 30 minutes away from Chiang Mai ,they offer to pick you up and drive you back for 400 thb each way . The houses are basic and clean with a bathroom and a fan .If you eat lunch and dinner with the kids the meals are free but if you want to eat in the guest area there is a small fee.You can mail mr Jo and book your stay , all income they get goes to the school  and facilities for the children .We were greeted by 4 vulanteers who showed us campus and explained  the daily routine . They start in the assembly hall at 8 , where the flag is raised , they sing and the teachers gives information regarding the activities of the day. While You are there you can help preparing for lunch and dinner , play uno or basket and football in late afternoon . They are places  to experience in the area close to  the school.

Pongkum  and Mae-on hot spring . Doi Saket and Nong-Bua temples.

The school for life project is situated in government land and nearby is the Huai Hong Khrai development study center specializing in fish raising, animal Husbandry and forest tracking.

My daughter and I arranged to come in November as I think it’s better to avoid visit during the rainy season as the red soil surrounding the school turns into mud . The sun is setting fast in Thailand so when it gets dark most children and teachers goes to their houses when the mosquitoes and other forest creatures shows up ! There is however a very nice fire pit close to the guest house area and if you are well prepared with long trousers and long sleeved  light jacket I could imagine a cosy evening around the fire .

Contact Mr Jo  by mail or phone if you are interested in this unique stay  and please donate a little extra when you are there 🙏 once a month they celebrate the children having their birth month and they get cake , for Christmas they try to fill a stocking with candy for each child. The playground and school bus also need an upgrade so plenty of projects that could benefit from your stay.

we followed the GPS directions, which brought us to a municipal building.
The people there confirmed we were at the advertised address, but knew nothing about any gallery

We had an amazing afternoon and cooked such delicious food with Chef Da. He picked us up right from our hotel and took us to an open air market in Chiang Mai. As we walked around, he told us about the various foods we were seeing as he bought the ingredients for our dishes. Then we drove to his house and he gave us a tour of his beautiful garden. His wife prepared our ingredients so they were ready for us to chop up and cook. Making curry paste from scratch was by far the coolest part. You put all the ingredients into a mortar and pound it with pestle until it's paste. The yellow curry and mango sticky rice were our favorite dishes but we also cooked pad Thai, cashew chicken, tom kha gai soup, and tom yum soup, which were all delicious. Of note, we were able to book this last minute and Da was responsive by email and very flexible to our last minute date/time change.

I studied with Mac from May to June 2024. No one recommended the school to me, I just searched on Google, started following him on Instagram and saw that everything was real. I honestly recommend it 100%, the training was very intensive and exceeded my expectations.  I speak Spanish and basic English and I could understand everything. His English is very simple and easy to understand. Mac is a Master of Thai Massage, he also shares a little of his vision with you. Not only is it a School, it makes you feel like family, he cooks for you and helps you with any questions about the city. I slept that month in the little house ( accommodation inside the school). It is an option, but there are other accommodations nearby depending on the amenities you want.
Thanks Mac for all your knowledge shared. It has been a wonderful experience and I hope to return soon. If you are looking for options to study Thai Massage. I Recommend Mac as your first option. You will not regretted.

Danny’s was a lovely friendly and accommodating driver. His minibus was very clean, comfortable and cool! He took us to the sticky waterfalls and waited as long as we wanted. Thank you!
