Really liked tips on nearby beaches and activities for children on the region. I was lucky, I did not wait too long. And they have bikes rental just outside!!

Nice to see the most popular sport in France, worth to go and bet, even though you know nothing about horse races. My advise , go and have a dinner in the restaurant while you see the horses racing.

The only regret is that there is not more meetings taking place at the Pornichet Hippodrome.
Place is nice, it hosts also evening events, that are the best time of the day with fresh air and a nice breeze to enjoy the show after spending the day on the beach or on the water.
Here are some major races from time to time.

A quiet, well kept cemetery worth a short visit if walking into the beaches. Well kept and close to the main cemetery, just off the main road and not far from the hippodrome.
The graves have been well kept- i suggest as part of a longer walk around the area.

This is what in France and especially at Pornichet a long time famous beach resort at the La Baule-Guerande area, they use to call an Institution, a must see, a place where as well the locals as the visitors love to meet to have take it easy drinks, yes! not only a single shot.
Le Bidule opened as I heard in the 30'. At the beginning it was a kind of cellar in a garage where people used to come and refill their wine bottles from the tanks or the barrels.
Later the owner changed it to a bar without changing much except customers were coming not to take away their bottles but to taste on the spot.
I came first to this place more than 30 years ago, I returned this week-end : nothing has changed, place is packed even in the winter season, with locals who enjoy friends company around a barrel table having either Banyuls or Muscat (sweet white)
It is friendly, it is busy, it is good and cheap.
When there you feel comfortable among the real people living there.

    We stayed for 5 nights.
The hotel is quite new, very nice design, spa included with hot ocean water indoor swimming pool with water sport facilities and outdoor swimming pool and bar.
The room was large, very comfortable bed, large bathroom, good bath cosmetics. Large balcony with armchair lawn chair, coffee available in the room.
Good breakfast offering fresh shellfish and champagne. Without vegetables, though.
We could not catch a table at the hotel restaurant - it was full every night with half board tourists.
Majority of tourists were French excepting us and 3 other families (German, Japanese and Russian).
The beach is available just outside hotel, quite private, very beautiful. We enjoyed the high tides.
We would have liked more some towel bathrobes instead of the thin ones they are offering and more comfortable slippers.
However, we highly recommended the hotel.

The pub was real nice inside. The beer n wine was well served and the staff were very accommodating. (They switched off the wall lights to improve TV picture quality.) The food was OK at best. Pizzas a bit doughy, chips not up to UK chippy standard and the BBQ ribs were tender but overcooked. OK, if you are ravenous.
But it is a good Sports Bar, with a decent selection of beers on tap. Just arrive well fed.
