What travellers are saying
- belgaicasSydney, Australia663 contributionsBeautifully restored castle- we combined this with the cheese factory tour for a reduced price.
The information brochure about the castle tells the history of it and how it came into government hands. In each room of the castle there is information about the particular room. You can walk around the gardens, see the chapel and get a really good feel for how the castle was.
We caught the train from Lausanne, arrived at Gruyère at about 9.30. Spent about 45 minutes at the cheese factory then spent an hour at the castle, had lunch in the village and we were back in Lausanne by 3.30pm. Great day out.Written 30 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The thought provoking art gives insight into the mind of HR Giger. His drawings and figures for Alien were amazing. I was never an Alien fan, but plan to see the movies again from a different viewpoint. Don’t miss the Giger Bar across from the museum. Super cool place.Written 5 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- IndiajuddShanghai, China60 contributionsMany beautiful Tibetan items of very high quality - quite serene after the tourist throngs outside. None of the items are explained at all at all so those who are not scholars of Tibetan Buddhism may feel a little overwhelmed. Apparently there is an app for it but nobody troubled to tell me about it. There is an excellent looking guide book for a good price. - IRW1127Vancouver, Canada184 contributionsGreat place to stroll around and enjoy the Swiss scenery. Easy to walk in but there is a slight climb up the hill from the train station below or the parking lot.Written 14 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Helen YHong Kong, China156 contributionsI spotted this church as I was about to walk into the Chateau de Gruyeres ticketing office, where on the right side I saw the beautiful landscape with this church placed prominently in the view. I decided that I would take a look and so I went back toward the village and made it to the church. It is very simple, but definiely graceful as well. there is a cemetery at the back and I would say this is the only cemetery I have come across in Switzerland as a tourist. All very peaceful and a nice detour from the center of the medieval village town. worth stopping by for religious or not religious reasons!Written 17 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JolieeLondon, UK149 contributionsLovely little gift store. We bought a hand full of traditional Swiss souvenirs from Gruyeres! Well-worth a stop while visiting the townWritten 10 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- weeziejaneBagley, WI36 contributionsThe Callier chocolate was delicious and so many free samples! We didn’t have time to participate in the chocolate making class but will do that the next trip. The tour was informative. Would definitely go again!Written 4 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ann MLausanne, Switzerland11 contributionsWe organized a hot air balloon flight with Adventure Gruyere. They were well organized, really nice and positive and took the time to explain how it works (either organizing the flight or during the flight). The pilot was excellent and the whole team made it an amazing experience. Recommend to bring walking shoes as the morning grass is wet and you will be standing for a few hours during the flight. If you have a chance to take a flight - please do, it is amazing.Written 5 October 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - belgaicasSydney, Australia663 contributionsVery informative visit - free tasting of 6, 9 and 12 month Gruyère. Self guided easy to operate audio guide. Amazing facts - a cow eats 100 kgs of grass a day and drinks 85 lites of water all to produce 25 litres of milk which makes about 2 kgs of Gruyère cheese!

If you get motion sickness from carnival type rides (like me) just get the condor flight and skip the acrobatics.Written 4 September 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
