- Julie2 contributionsCute little town along the Hudson. We enjoyed the river cruise and lunch in town. Needs more shopping, but I'm sure it will get there.Written 30 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ejplumClarks Summit, PA436 contributionsIt was like walking back in time. My husband and I thought that the museum only dealt with the Woodstock music festival, but the whole decade of the 1960's was covered! There was information galore presented in a variety of ways - writing, pictures, videos, objects from the era. We didn't take a guided tour, but it took us about 3 hours to cover everything. I recommend it.Written 4 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- PaleoGypsyPhiladelphia, PA2,140 contributionsThe Hanford Mills Museum is definitely worth a detour. Located less than 10 miles from Interstate 88 in Oneonta, New York, you get to see a water-powered mill in the Catskills. RVers, parking is available in the Events Parking that is located across the street. Otherwise, park right next to the office if you are traveling in a passenger car. The one-hour tour is fabulous, due in part to the live demonstrations and explanations of the mill conducted by a wonderful tour guide who has worked there since 1985. Wow! All of the staff whom we encountered are friendly. They go above-and-beyond when it comes to telling you about the museum and area. That is impressive. The gift shop features some fairly-priced, locally made crafts. Bring your own water and snacks. Wear comfortable shoes. Be prepared for the weather. Come back for the special events.Written 22 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Justin WHasbrouck Heights, NJ3,737 contributionsWhat I like about this museum is that it is so welcoming to fellow fire fighters. The guys that man the museum are retired Kingston NY fire fighters and have a lot of good stories to tell.
They have all sorts of interesting equipment including vintage trucks and show pieces that were used at the turn of the last century. Upstairs there is a complete office and a living quarters with a fireplace that was decorated for Christmas.
During the open house they had for the Kingston Snowflake Festival, the whole place was decorated for Christmas. It was an interesting tour.Written 3 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The owner has all things Steiff in the Museum. There is even a little cafe to buy drinks and a garden path to explore to a pond outside.
This is a great museum for those restless children who want to be surrounding by the best in playthings and for parents who are looking for the inner child. The owner and his mother in law have an very extensive and detailed collection of Steiff Bears, Animals and Collectables that must make up a huge portion of the company's collection. The Bear collection alone has many rare bears that were made in limited numbers as well as all sorts of themed collections that the company produced.
There is even a Mama Bear lounge for parents to relax while the kids get to play in their own play area on the second floor. In the future, there will also be a cafe with a lunch menu on the first floor. Outside there is an extensive lawn with cut outs for the children to explore and a garden path down to a pond area.Written 4 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can climb through buses, subway cars and trains on the outside of the museum and inside you can take a trip through a simulated experience in the New York subway system.
If you are bringing young children, they will have a lot of fun running through the cars and exploring the subway system. The inside of the museum has more displays on the industry.
On a nice day though the best thing to do is take the trolley ride up to Kings Point Park. It is so nice to take this ride as the foliage changes. In the summer, you can see all the trees in full bloom and see the sites in the distance. The park is really pretty in the fall,
I highly recommend the museum to people with active young children.Written 30 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It told a lot about the history of the region, about water, and about the history of water getting to NYC (My son was not interested in this latter exhibit, but I found it fascinating!). The building, itself, is lovely, the layout of the exhibits is neat and clear, and it was fun and interesting going into the farm buildings, above the museum! The woman at the front desk, who was a living piece of this history/museum, herself, could not have been nicer or more helpful!Written 5 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nancy0657Leominster MA142 contributionsStopped here on a whim - it's a bit off the beaten path, but well worth it. We had a "private tour" by the curator of the museum and she is a wealth of knowledge about this area of the Catskills. Absolutely wonderful! We are the type who typically just like to browse exhibits on our own, but I am so thankful that this time around we allowed the curator to point out all the highlights and add her insights (and humor) to the experience.Written 9 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cindy WPine Bush, NY70 contributionsI knew that Pine Bush was known for their UFO sightings, but this museum presented so many interesting things that also occur in that area. I was on a tour with a group of friends who were also impressed with all of the material that the owner had gathered to prove that UFO's really do exist. He took his time during the tour not only to explain the exhibits but also to answer any questions that we had. Besides the UFO sightings he also told some local tales of oddities that occurred in that area. He spoke of the paranormal encounters that some of the local people had had and had even created some scenes recreating those encounters. I found this museum well worth your time and cost which made for a very interesting afternoon tour! Also, Pine Bush hosts an annual UFO festival which is a blast! You might want to attend that too!Written 16 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ChannahAbrahamWoodstock, NY57 contributionsNo town's quite like Woodstock, NY. And there's no place to learn about Woodstock like it's historical society. On Saturdays and Sundays from June through Labor Day and for two weekends every December, HSW welcomes visitors to its exhibits and gift shop. Exhibits focus on the artists, musicians, and writers who put Woodstock on the world-map, along with unknowns whose lives created community in a small town blessed abundantly by Mother Nature. HSW's gift shop offers prints of local artists' work, books and DVD's about the history of Woodstock, the Catskills and Hudson Valley, CDs, Woodstock chimes, local maple syrup, and jams . . . At Christmas, handmade gifts from cookies to aprons, mittens, hats, scarves, jewelry, skin care products . . . along with year-round offerings, make HSW a must-stop for unique gifts.
