Galata Tower is toward the tip of the Golden Horn, so from the top you can see across the Bosphorus to Asia, and you can easily see Sultanhamet where Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Topkapi Palace are.
A nice place to see Istanbul and explore it , there is a 4 D simulation for helicopter exploring Istanbul you must try, and there us a nice photo session with the old Turkish cloth, the bazars near by are very nice

I don't recommend going there just to see it though, go with time to take the Palace tour (around 1.5h for the short tour or 2.5h for the complete one).
