- CAPTMSCJacksonville, FL7 contributionsCelebrity cruises Excursion “Taste of Cartagena “ run by Convi Ltda DBA was one of the beat ever. Carlos (know as Carlitos) was outstanding. He was so very knowledgeable about everything Cartagena. Highly recommended !Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MDOGPDallas, TX1,131 contributionsI went there early in the morning. I just hiked to the top of the mountain. The scenery is just breathtaking, it has beautiful views of the city. Try to go early in the morning because there are many crowds. I recommend to attend mass at the shrine. Avoid going late because they close at 1.00 p.m.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SavannahtaylorMilwaukee, WI24 contributionsOn a hot, humid, full sun day, the trek to the top was a little taxing. It was so worth it though. The views were spectacular, and there was a shaded area to rest in. The price to get in was cheap, so definitely worth a visit!Written 7 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Oliver M3 contributionsThe tour with Expotur was a great experience. The trek itself is quite challenging but our guides Nelson and Andres were a great support and a lot of fun. I can recommend the trip and these two in particular! :)Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jasmine38Chichester UKChichester, UK1,952 contributionsImpressive place but the stations of the cross were disappointing. We were expecting carved figures in salt or sandstone but basically each station was represented by carved crosses in different positions with a very 'modern art' type explanation.
As the tickets were quite expensive at 20 USD, my husband and I were rather underwhelmed. However, it did get better after the 14 stations with a lovely Chapel and some proper carvings, including a nativity scene. There was also an excellent sound and light show on the half hour centred on the main Chapel and cross.
There are a number of other types of attractions in the 'commercial' area for which you have to pay extra and we didn't bother. There are also numerous shops and eateries. An impressive set up given how you are underground and in an old mine.
To exit you board a tram which takes you back to the entrance but nobody told us this and we spent quite some time trying to locate the exit as the signage is pretty poor.
Lastly, to note that you do not have to join a tour for your visit and they are only conducted in Spanish. We were provided with an audio and were able to wander at leisure.Written 31 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very safe with heavy police presence.
Colorful experience.
Very expensive items sold on street marked, double price of Medellin.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The side that is visible show a beautiful church and convent. There is a little market in the square.Written 20 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MichaelBNielsenOdense, Denmark377 contributionsA small oasis far from the noice and pollution of downtown Medellin. It’s quite small and I used just 30 minutes there to take some pictures of the colourful houses. There is a nice walk down through the forest.Written 13 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Steve M21 contributionsThe commitment of San Pedro Claver and his Jesuit brethren to the fight against slavery and mistreatment of enslaved people was truly inspiring, especially since it occurred 400 years ago. For their troubles, the Jesuits were repeatedly banned from Colombia for many years at a time. Their example of speaking truth to power with respect to basic human rights is as timely as ever.Written 4 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Maria RAustin, TX8 contributionsA beautiful place overlooking the city. Strongly recommend taking a taxi and asking them to wait as you won’t be there for long. Gave it a four as everything is in Spanish. Unless you hire a guide to interpret, it’s just a pretty place to visit. Great views of the city.Written 19 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SavannahtaylorMilwaukee, WI24 contributionsLoved all the art and the mere beauty of this neighborhood. It's almost like a maze, so many corridors and turns but you always end up in awe at all the flowers and paintings. We ate a great lunch here and found an air conditioned cafe to rest in for a while. Everyone is so accommodating and friendly! Nighttime is cool too to see all the lights above the streets.Written 7 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RschagrinDelray Beach, FL17,471 contributionsVery nice plaza in the middle of the walled city. Surrounded by tons of stores and restaurants. There are tables in the middle of the plaza so you sit and eat and at night, enjoy the music.Written 1 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GlllaLos Angeles, CA79 contributionsIt was interesting to see the church and all the plaques people giving thanks. I particularly liked how the rock was incorporated into the interior. I need to note that the path is not narrow- at its most narrow point it’s as wide as a two-lane road - and it’s not particularly steep. I think that the person who wrote that it was May have come in from an entrance other than the main oneWritten 15 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jasmine38Chichester UKChichester, UK1,952 contributionsSo glad we chose to include it on our Colombian itinerary. Not the easiest place to get to but it was so worthwhile. Unique and fascinating. I recommend hiring a guide to get the most from your visit and allow around 3 hours.
It's also worth visiting Alto de las Idoles at Isnos about 40 min drive away for the tallest of the statues and two that still have some of their original colour.
From San Agustin you can also take a beautiful walk or a horse ride to take in El Tablon, La Chaquira, La Pelota and El Purutal.
The hike is not difficult and will take around 3 hours. Beautiful views, especially at La Chaquira.Written 28 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
