On a hot, humid, full sun day, the trek to the top was a little taxing. It was so worth it though. The views were spectacular, and there was a shaded area to rest in. The price to get in was cheap, so definitely worth a visit!

I'm sure it's impressive, guarding the waterway as it has for centuries, but there's not much to "see" really. If you're there anyway to catch a boat at the Bocachica pier, sure, look around.

This castle which is now a museum use to be somebody's residence. They offer a guided tour where they tell you the very interesting story of the family that owned this place. It has a lot of antiques and exhibits from other countries. The price is fair but you can also just visit the gardens for free if you want to. It's a great place for pictures. Note: they do cram a lot of people in the tours at once.

The former Palace of Justice was sieged in 1985 by M-19, a leftist nationalist guerrila group (now a political party). Earlier in 1980 M-19 had sieged the Dominican Republic embassy which after negotiations ended peacefully. Perhaps M-19 had anticipated a similar scenario. This time their siege ended in a massacre, after it was decided to send to army in. More than 100 people died in the crossfire and subsequent blaze. The building was turned into a ruin.

The present-day modern structure was completed in 2004. For obvious reasons security around the building is heavy.
