We spent an hour in the company of 21 orphaned elephants and one baby rhino, and it was utterly delightful! The only negative thing was that it was very difficult to buy the ticket for the park, because none of our credit cards were accepted by the card reader. In the end our driver kindly paid on our behalf and we refunded him. This seems to be a normal occurrence and they don’t accept cash - neither shillings nor dollars - so aim to get to the park entrance one hour before the appointed time & be very patient!
After the baby elephants had been fed, we moved on & drove round the Nairobi national park, seeing gazelle, buffalo, rhino, lion, giraffe, hippo & crocodile.

Great experience at an awesome price! We went there on a Friday afternoon and had a very short wait. I would definitely recommend it!

The online entry & payment form is tedious & time consuming. We were self drive & found it not user friendly at all. Even the lady who worked at our hotel described it as tiresome!! After travelling around Kruger National Park in South Africa, with an easy system (& so much cheaper) we were disappointed to spend so much time at an entry gate, waiting for help, as we found it impossible to upload our passport photos onto their system.

We’ve had a great holiday & loved travelling in Kenya, however would like to pass on this information, especially as the entry price is set to rise considerably again later this year.

I was not familiar with her so it was interesting to hear her history and impact to Kenya. We toured the grounds where it was a coffee plantation and her home. A large wedding happened to be taking place while we were there. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and encouraged questions. I will have to watch Out of Africa on the plane ride back.

Absolutely lived my morning in Karura forest. Booked an ecotour directly with friends of Karura forest. Timetable is on their website. I chose birdwatching tour starting 7am from Gate A. Easy to access park by Uber. Pay at entrance with card. Total of 1700 shillings for entry and tour. Was about 4 hours in all! Went with fabulous park ranger Jonathan O who is professional ranger and super knowledgeable. Saw 30 different types of bird. He logged them on an app and then I took photos at end of walk. Forest is so beautiful. About 200 hectares in total. I would love to go again and do a different ecotour. Also learnt a lot about history of forest and the community activities they run. Also saw waterfall. Learnt z out different types of tres in forest. Really encourage visitors to book these tours. You just email in advance to make a booking. Email address is on website.

There is a lot to see here, especially interesting were the pix of earlier periods in Kenya. Very good coffee shop (Vogue) and good craft shops.

The Karen Blixen Coffee Garden is a wonderful venue to eat and relax. We went there for a family dinner after a long hot day and it was such a relaxing and calming evening. There was ample space for the kids to run around in, the food and drinks were extremely delicious and the chef and staff were really attentive.

We were a big group but the food arrived on time for everyone. We would definitely return!!

Went there three times, once with a friend and twice on business meals. Food court was passable although many options were carb heavy. The gift shops were very good with decent prices. The one caffee had delicious coffee. I didn't care for the upscale chain stores as they can be found anywhere. The restaurant meal was excellent--oddlly the bathrooms were hard to find, actually needed a guide!

Indeed a wooded landscape as the website mentions. However, there are some open spaces with some benches. The 30 hectare space is crisscrossed by trails and paths, so it is pretty good for a walk. As an arboretum it is perhaps disappointing as the variety of vegetation is limited and markings of different species of trees could be better. Perhaps a result of the original set-up in 1907 as a forestry business entreprise to try out different (imported) species of trees.

I liked the groups of monkeys and there is some birdlife.

Entrance fee 65 KES (no cash is accepted; pay with M-PESA or Visa/Mastercard).
For once, no extra charges for foreigners. All visitors are treated equally!

In my next life I’m going to be a train driver (engineer) I love trains in all their shapes and sizes. After purchasing our train tickets to Nanyuki we walked down the tree lined avenue to the train museum. I found it interesting, informative and I was inspired by the fact that the museum is still being kept. We met an interesting artist from South Sudan there who is also a train enthusiast and spent a fabulous few minutes chatting with him. A really good attraction to visit.

Amazing views of the city, 27 storeys above ground. Certainly puts Nairobi into perspective. Well worth the fee of 500 KSh per person. Be warned, there’s still 4 sets of stairs and a spiral staircase to climb after alighting on the 27th floor. Important consideration for the mobility challenged!
