- Ken (haileythegolden)Edmonton, Canada3,435 contributionsChinatown has 2 hawker stations. Both are good . This china town has the usual booths selling all kinds of stuff. There are some nice restaurants in the area and it seems to be a little cleaner than most china townsWritten 28 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - M DBengaluru, India1,843 contributionsLocated in Chinatown, Singapore. Free access to public to view it. - Julia @Scrumptious SolentSouthampton, UK4,387 contributionsWorth popping in for a look around as the temple is beautiful and the colours stunning. You have to remove your shoes as it is a place of worship so be respectful and keep to the areas where tourists are allowed.
Allow about 15 minutes or so to walk around and take a few photos.Written 9 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The food court down the bottom offers value for money and we ate there a couple of times trying different foods each time. A great place to explore right near Chinatown.Written 25 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MN001Kerikeri, New Zealand51 contributionsI am rating this 5:5 simply for the amazing views from the top; however it was quite a mission to actually get there.
We found the building quite easily - it’s hard to miss being so tall - but finding the entrance was quite tricky. We had to find building G, and then were turned away because we didn’t have cash! Being determined to do this we asked where the nearest cash point ATM was (over and along the road) so armed with our cash ($6 per person) we made our way back. We then got tripped up because we didn’t have one of the ID documents needed to access the turnstile (not sure what they were, they seemed to be travel docs). I think the man in the ticket office felt sorry for us as he handed us his own personal access pass if we left behind a driving licence as collateral.
Our persistence paid off and we were blown away by the views. You can walk all around the top of all 6 towers. Mainly this was the residents doing this at the time we came (6pm) so it wasn’t at all crowdedWritten 23 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chang PercyTaipei, Taiwan505 contributionsThis large historical temple is situated near the Telok Ayer MRT station. It is easy to find. The decorations on its ceilings and rooftops are convoluted and colorful. - Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,585 contributionsChinese New Year is celebrated throughout the Asian region. It is often called Lunar New Year, as it is celebrated throughout Asia. Lunar New Year is celebrated according to the Lunar calendar. Apart from Singapore, the Lunar New Year is celebrated in Korea and Taiwan. In mainland China, it is celebrated as the Spring Festival. Of course, the Lunar New Year is celebrated in Chinatowns around the world. The method of celebration is similiar -- feasting, exchanging red envelopes and lots of fireworks!Written 22 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PriscillaFPerth, Australia2,172 contributionsThere were lots of shops here. It’s across from the blue line stop at Chinatown. Good food, good coffee (aside from Starbucks and maccas). Fairly clean. Although no seats to sit and rest after walking around all day.Written 30 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - eVe 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬Singapore, Singapore1,268 contributionsLined with pre-war shophouses and religious buildings, I always find something new to explore in Telok Ayer whenever I am here.
Telok Ayer Street used to face the original seafront and served as docking bay for the boats and sampans of early immigrants.
The famous Thiam Hock Keng Temple is exquisite in its architecture. There is a wishing well within the temple compound. Next to the temple is the Former Nagore Dargah erected by the Chulia community,
Amoy Street Hawker Centre is located near the entrance to Ann Siang Hill and is one of the popular food centre in Singapore. It is famous for their meat dumplings, lor mee, zi char etc.
