What travellers are saying
- Antonio MCopenhagen, Denmark45 contributionsEl Salvador has been known for its excellence in the production of coffee beans, later known in the newspapers for its horrific civil war, now also positions itself in the art world!
The museum has a lot of artwork but unfortunately, all the descriptions are available only in Spanish. The souvenir shop is very small and we did not find any interpretations of the paintings such as postcards or magnets.Written 4 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tour got a little tedious in parts but was very good overall. The tour lasted about an hour.
The Center is named after Saint Romero but most of the focus is on the massacre of Jesuit priests and two women that occurred at the site. The tour provides a good explanation of the massacre and other aspects of the war. The Cathedral is also part of the tour and has some interesting art.
I would consider it a must-see sight if you want to learn about the Civil War.Written 25 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Not extensive but interesting and informative. I've been to some Mayan sites, but I have others I want to visit, including Copan. This museum is a must if you have any interest in Mesoamerican culture and history.Written 9 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mikebrownnzCardiff, UK1,082 contributionsThis small inexpensive museum is run by a not for profit foundation called MUPI dedicated to the investigation, rescue, preservation and dissemination of the historical and cultural heritage of El Salvador.
As well as changing exhibitions, this museum has permanent exhibitions focusing on how El Salvador was changed by the events of 1932 and 1981 and on the life of Oscar Romero, who was canonized by Pope Francis in 2018 as El Salvador's first saint, who was assassinated on a chapel altar in 1980 and was proclaimed a martyr.Written 13 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It nice, clean and organized. You get the chance to see different locomotives that were us us through the years...call in advance to find out the exact time the train tour is on. You get to ride the train around the facility for about 15 minutes. This ride cost $1.00 in addition to the $1.00 you pay to get in.Written 24 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - minimize940314Los Angeles, CA3,357 contributionsThis place is guarded by soldiers but do not be afraid. You can talk to them that you are here to take a look at the map of El Salvador then they will let you in. The map shows every tourist attraction so it would be good place to review the places that you would have visited.Written 5 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OsoteAustin, TX105 contributionsThis is a very small, family-owned sculpture museum, featuring the works of Enrique Salaverria, a very famous Salvadorian sculpturist. We were lucky to meet his son who showed us around. The museum is small but worth the time it takes to visit. I highly recommend it. Salaverria's work is very good and very interesting.Written 14 April 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - YolipdxPortland, OR67 contributionsVisited last month with my family. El Árbol de Dios is an institute, gallery and gift shop. We had the pleasure of speaking with the artist and watching them work during our visit. The gallery displays the most beautiful work and many pieces are very affordable, too. We left very impressed and happy with the entire experience.Written 2 April 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
