Since it is never sure, what animals you will encounter, we were very excited seeing cuscus, tarcius, hornbills and sulawesi maquaces. Our guide Fandj being so humble doing are great job in that, providing good information about the ecosystem. There were not only highlights in fauna, at the end of the hike he showed us a magnificent ebony tree. Being so rare, i visited several rainforests worldwide and never saw one, being locally extinct so often. Gorgeous Minahasa agricultural areas surrounded by Volcano’s, lakes, mountains and forest. The ceramic and home building artisans were incredible, the palm sugar farm, pepper and clove fields were post card worthy. The traditional market was a visual feast that you’ve got to experience. If you’re into the geology of Indonesia or their geothermal energy development, you won’t be disappointed. Our guide and driver were excellent. After mentioning that my great grandfather was born in Tondano, our guide took extra steps to show us specific areas and asked local people for their knowledge of my family’s last name. Not only did we see those areas but we ended up meeting the Mayor of Tondano and chatting it up with his family about his and ours. Easily booked, professionally handled and superb personal detail on this companies part. - sulawesi volcano guideTomohon, Indonesia289 contributionsTrekking lokon volcano and mahawu volcano in tomohon city north sulawesi is easy for mahawu volcano to summit point.trekking for birdwaching is worth see the scaly breasted kingfisher,turquiseflycacher,and parrots,niceview from the summit.
lokon volcano only to crater is easy if not rain. But to summit of lokon volcano bit dificult still one half hour to get the summit point with monument as summit point.
you need gloves,mask for the gas,good shoes,alots of water and extra food.
many time i climb this summit alone and also with my friends mountaineering club and also with tourist need me as their guide.
