- Michael AnbumaniSeremban, Malaysia533 contributionsThe Shrine was built with a unique structure dipicting all other religions in Indonesia. A sign of unity and harmony. My family and I have visited this shrine for more than 10 times. There is a miraculous under water springing from the statue of Annai Velangkanni. It's said to me a healing water. It's one of the 10 top spots to visit in Medan. Rev. Fr. James was the indicator and responsible for building this Shrine. He celebrates daily Mass. A beautiful place and you will have a wonderful and peace feeling when you are inside. Don't miss it when you are in Medan. We visited last year January. During our visits we take the opposite of helpful the St. Angela Girls' Orphanage and the Sri Lanka Refugees families. We wish to thank our handful of generous friends and family members. We have plans to visit again in April 2025 after Easter. Pray for us please. God bless us all.Written 5 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TomgientMedan, Indonesia11 contributionsThe beauty of the idol island lies in its shaded blue beaches and the large number of large rocks,
There are many activities that can be done by tourists, such as enjoying the beauty of the island by going around the island, snorkeling, diving, trekking and riding to the lighthouse. Surely any activities carried out in this place should not not ride the lighthouse to see the scenery around the island more clearlyWritten 23 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The main hall is elaborately decorated, its dome sporting a huge chandelier in the centre. Around the building there are clean, well kept cloisters overlooking the grounds. The overall effect is imposing and peaceful rather than likeable, but it’s definitely worth a visit. If you’re a ‘bule’ (foreigner) a donation will be expected.Written 8 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - duncan_KSGeorge Town, Malaysia79 contributionsThis is definitely off the beaten destination, the journey to Dolok Tinggi Raja took more than 2 hours from Parapat. Even some bumpy roads along the journey, you will be rewarded with nice villages & paddy fields en route.
When we reached Dolok Tinggi Village, immediately group of 5 to 6 villagers surrounded us and followed us around. Obviously, they wanted to collect unofficial entrance fee from. Our Batak speaking driver negotiated entrance fee with them as no sign indicated how much entrance fee is. After negotiated, they waived entrance fee for our 6 years old kid but adult price is still steep.
We first visited the smaller crater near the entrance, it is very impressive to see several white terraces filled with blue and green color water. The temperature of water is hot and it is slippery when wandering around. Later, we hiked up to the bigger crater, the view is more impressive. Even with the steep entrance fee collected, maintenance of the crater was obviously neglected. Lack of proper signboard to lead way to visitor. Visitors simply hiked up to terrace and stepped on soft suffur formed white terraces to get better photo without knowing damages on terraces had been made.
Indonesia tourism authority should focus more on maintenance in this place. If not, this nature wonder will be gone in few years time. Also, they need to better control on entrance fee as the unofficial steep entrance fee collected by local villages will discourage people from visiting to this nature wonder.Written 13 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Inside the temple there is a Vegetarian Restaurant called Teko Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant. The price is reasonable! Give it a try. Many choices and dishes. Wifi available too. - qqttBulle, Switzerland350 contributionsNot much of a beach at Bali Lestari ... two pitches of sand terribly overcrowded. The restaurant has some nice seafood, which makes up for the poor beach. - ZdenkoSydney, Australia824 contributionsI left this museum with mixed feelings and was split between satisfaction for being able to see so many diverse animals for the first time and sadness and disgust upon so many hunting trophies glorifying killing of animals for sport only.
For the ticket of 150.000 IDR (price for foreigners) you get a guided tour with nice and well informed guide.
The butterfly and other incects section is large and very nice in spite of some kitschy arrangements (like are "The Beatles"). I was glad that was able to see Coelacanth the living fossil fish found in Indonesian waters - there are not many places on Earth where you can see it.Written 3 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
