    Bukit lawang jungle trek
    Awesome day out with a cool as guide who’s very knowledgeable. Saw heaps of animals and really up close. Food was amazing too.Would highly recommend

    A Must-try for Enthusiastic Hikers
    Nusan is a great n patient guide. He's very encouraging during the hike. Very knowledgable, giving many interesting facts throughout the trip.

    Bukit Lawang...Bukit List, more like! Challenging, worthwhile, amazing!
    - picked up efficiently with sign at airport, taken to accommodation (slight walk from car to guest house). We stopped off for a tourist sim on the drive from Medan, and may or may not have been ripped off! Research options before coming!
    - accommodation in BL and breakfast etc really great (hot shower!) - amazing view of the river! This was not the place we were expecting, but close by and perfectly wonderful!
    - guides in National Park were FABULOUS!!!! Izoen, Randy and Henrik were toooooo wonderfully friendly and helpful! Food prepared was beautifully presented and plentiful throughout, and when either of us were struggling with tricky terrain and/or wet ground they assisted us competently and kindly. We saw 3 pairs of orangutans and had lots of info about other jungle sounds, saw some hornbills and birds too. When my shoe came away from the sole, Henrik gave me his shoes and completed the trek barefoot - legend 🙏!!
    - campsite at jungle was well prepared, comfortable, basic toilet, beautiful surroundings, mosquito net, excellent array of food, and card/matchstick games which are clearly a favourite of Izoen's to perplex and amuse guests!
    - rafting next day - LEECHES!! Beware but also the guides laughed and removed the offending creatures easily! Great fun rafting, a somewhat hairy walk and not a pleasant crossing for those not confident in the water, but again, all guides were knowledgeable and helpful about the area and how to stay safe.
    - we loved these guys so much we met for beers later (some great spots in BL) and asked them to escort us to Bat Cave the following day (doable alone - but the guides add a new dimension of confidence and knowledge to the excursion).

    Best tour company in Medan!
    I highly recommend Tri Jaya Tours through Hotel Deli River for all your tours while visiting Medan. As soon as I found Hotel Deli River and Tri Jaya, I had a wonderful stay in Medan and great tour experience. The company is family run and ensure that your experience is comfortable and safe. I felt very safe as a solo female traveler, the drivers and tour guides were careful and I had a wonderful time on each tour I tried ( I also visited Bukit Lawang and Mt. Sibayak as well)

    Mesmerizing Lake Toba
    It was a group of 25 friends. We landed in Medan on a tuesday morning. We visited the oldest church , then checked into our hotel. In d evening we went to the oldest hindhu temple in Medan.

    The next day, we left the city to go to Lake Toba. The view of the lake as we scaled the hills was so breathtaking. Then we started to descend to come alongside the lake.
    It is the largest, natural fresh water lake in Sumatra. After lunch we took a boat to an island in the middle of the lake. There we were given an insight into the tribal lifestyle of its inhabitants.
    Another 45 minute back over the lake and a bus ride up to our hotel was indeed remarkable and unforgettable.

    Choose this wonderful local trekking company for an unforgettable experience!
    My sister and I booked the 3 Days Bukit Lawang Tour because we noticed that Sumatra Orang Utan Treks is a local and ethical company, and we couldn’t have wished for more from this incredible experience. We felt very well looked after throughout our stay, and everyone was extremely warm and welcoming - from our wonderful, knowledgeable and hilarious guides Ahmet and Amso who made sure that the trek (including tubing and exploring the bat cave) was absolutely unforgettable, checking we were comfortable and getting us great orangutan footage every step of the way, to our driver Beri who delivered us safely the 3-4 hours to and from the airport and waited patiently as we explored the sites of Medan, and Heri who’s communication made our trip run smoothly. As well as the trek (where we saw five orangutans, including two babies, Thomas’ leaf monkeys, a pig-tailed macaque, a chameleon, hornbills and a tortoise), a highlight was seeing magic tricks, playing card games and singing along to the guitar with Lely and the rest of the team late into the evening. Our beautiful accommodation and the delicious and authentic food from the company restaurant made the experience even better. I will definitely be returning to Bukit Lawang for a longer trek one day!

    Miss it already!
    Just finished our 7 day tour with Sumatra Orangutans Treks last week and miss it already!
    The highlights were walking with the elephants, seeing the orangutans, going down the river on the rapids and learning more about the culture and history of Samosir.
    Food and accomodation provided were great. We especially enjoyed the villa in the middle of the rice fields, very peaceful indeed.
    Overall, we had such an amazing time. Helmi, Anto, Dennis and our driver were amazing. Such a good team 💪🏻👏 they went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time, always safe and entertained with games and knowledgeable facts.
    (Be sure to ask for Dennis if going to Lake Toba, his connection to the island is certainly special)
    We appreciate all of their hard work and would 💯 ask for them all again by name for future trips. Look no further and book Sumatra Orangutans Treks!

    Our time with the staff and activities provided by Sumatra Orangutan Treks was awesome. With a need to rebook due to Covid last year we experienced total support from the Management.
    Our time with the very kind, caring,helpful, experienced and knowledgeable Guides was 10 out of 10.
    Special thanks to our allocated guides: Dennis,Helmi and Anto and our safe driver who took us from place to place on our seven day adventure.
    Food and accommodation was great.

    Our Orangutan Trek was exciting, fulfilling and challenging.

    We come away with great memories and photos.

    An all inclusive super tour in northern Sumatra
    We booked the 7 day tour incl jungle tracking, climbing the volcano and leisure at Lake Toba. We added two leisure days at Lake Toba. It was a fantastic trip, always accompanied by wonderful guides.
    We saw everything we wanted to see, including the orang utans which is not guaranteed. We travelled in the rainy season which has pro's and con's : there are few tourist so you don't have to share the orang utans with hordes andere toeristen. But there are the occasional downpours so rain clothing is essential.
    Hotels were good, we loved the Ecolodge and the Tabo cottages. Hotel Kalang Ulu in Berastagi is nice in concept and design, but its maintenance poor.
    Food was good also during tracking.
    Altogether a wonderful experience, and moreover very good value for money.

    The tour was well organised, everything promised was delivered. The guides go the extra to ensure everything is right and are very friendly but still professional.
    Would certainly recommend the tour and the company. The tour was one which will always remain a special and unique experience for us thank you

    Best Tour Company for Bukit Lawang and Beristagi
    We booked the 6-day Bukit Lawang & Beristagi tour with Sumatra Orangutan Treks and it was a once in a lifetime experience.

    The driver met us at the airport and drove us to Bukit Lawang where we were greeted warmly by Heri and his friends at the Sumatra Orangutan Treks HQ. The accommodation there is brilliant and the food and drinks at the bar that run by Didi is fresh and delicious.

    The next day we began our 2-day jungle trek into Mount Lesuer National Park. Our three guides were Amet and Anton as well as Konong. They were all absolutely amazing throughout the trek and helped with our three year old daughter who they all really bonded with. They are incredibly knowledgable about the jungle and the orangutans. We were very lucky and saw a total of 20 in the wild including an alpha Male on the ground. The night stay in the jungle is basic but comfortable, and shares an area with a lot of other companies by the river. They keep you well fed throughout the trek with fresh fruit and food prepared beforehand. You return to the beginning via river tubing which was really fun and unique.

    The next day we travelled to Beristagi with Konong and a driver and visited a ghost town of Mount Sibuatan volcano. We also had a tour of the markets from Konong who lives in Beristagi and is very knowledgable. The accommodation we stayed in was again really nice and comfortable.

    On the fourth day we did a sunrise trek of Mount Sibayak volcano (also offered the option of doing it in the morning instead). It was a relatively easy climb and the views from the top are spectacular. The sunrise got covered in cloud at the very last minute but other than that, it was awesome. It’s quite a dangerous volcano to trek if you don’t have a guide as it is easy to get lost at the summit in low visibility. When we got to the bottom we visited the geothermal spa baths up the road which were nice and basic. After that we returned for breakfast at the hotel followed by visits to a waterfall near Lake Toba and a village with traditional houses. The next day we were driven back to the airport in time for our flight back to Jakarta. Konong was amazing and was brilliant with our daughter through the six days.

    Overall it was wonderful experience, really well organised, and one of the few tour companies that are owned and ran by Sumatran people. Everyone involved is very friendly, knowledgable and make sure you have a fantastic time. We would thoroughly recommend booking your tours and treks with these guys!

    Great day at Barumun
    Barumun is very nice to visit with kids. The people are very kind and the animals are very approachable.
    It was a full day visit seeing elephants, tiger, monkeys and hornbill birds. Lunch was local and tasty.
    Breathtaking views. We even saw their new homestay location with stunning view. Unfortunately we didn’t book this.
    Highly recommended to visit or take into your itenary.

    Highly recommend if in Sumatra. See you next time for the 7 day tour
    Great experience- Erwen was a great driver who showed us all the sights with aplomb. Orangutan hike was fantastic seeing the orangutans in the wild versus rehab centres where i have seen them before in Borneo.

    Volcano hike was a great experience - fantastic views which me and my son enjoyed. Hike was around 6-7km all round so was comfortable if fit
