- KamelmatPerth, Australia104 contributionsWorth a visit if you’re in the area. It is a beautiful temple nestled in a large cave. The lighting within the cave makes photographing an easy task.Written 7 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve RBolton, UK598 contributionsIf you're in the area then you should definitely visit Perak Tong. It's one of a few temples within a cave in Malaysia and has a relaxed and thought provoking vibe to it. I can recommend it but only for an hour or so.Written 5 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Lane fill with small stores and cafes! Probably take ard 20mins to finish this lane but worth to come since Ipoh is already smallWritten 28 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Kids enjoyed cycling around on family bicycles which available free of charge. Rickshaws are similarly available if you fancy more exercise. There are lots of fish and turtles in the ponds and fish feed can be purchased for RM 1 per packet. Overall, it was a pleasant way to spend an hour or so. Certainly it was more enjoyable than I had expected.Written 23 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - N DLincolnshire, UK1,614 contributionsIt probably isn’t one of the most impressive cave temples but it is one of the oldest. There’s a garden in front and you walk through to another garden and temple at the back.Written 26 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LeonhknyHong Kong, China23,232 contributionsWhile Penang has long been well-known for street art, Ipoh also has its fair share of murals. Interesting paintings depicting daily life of Ipoh residents are available in the old town. Searching for artworks while exploring the former mining city is an enjoyable experience.Written 21 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Note, however, that the street art / murals are scattered in various locations in Old Town (i.e. the area on the side of the railway station of Kinta river) IpohWritten 29 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A typical temple built into a cave that with elaborate statues and scriptures on the walls.
There was another temple next door that was less notable but worth checking out.Written 13 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Not very much of people in Ipoh knows about it. It is at a hidden location covered by wild plants on the approaching roads and surroundings. There are very few Tibetan Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia, this temple is a rare find and is one of the largest Tibetan-tradition Buddhist temples in the country.
It is located at the foot of Ipoh’s impressive stretch of limestone. The road sign is just before the turn to the road that leads to the temple.Travel about 1.2 km along the road directed from there. The road is narrow and covered with bushes on the sides where only one vehicle can travel at a time and therefore so be watchful.
Temple is very quiet, five of us were the only visitors only at that time other than the volunteers who maintain it. My Chinese origin Malaysian friends told me that this temple is vibrant on festive season like Wesak days but rather quiet with few visitors on other days with few people. Nevertheless the architecture and the design are great. It is serine, spiritual and clears our souls when visited. There are some really impressive statues.
By comparison with other more famous temples, it is quite new, and it is possible to feel the strong personal commitment volunteer There is one room with huge jars around.
Volunteers helped us with directions. It was very beautiful and peaceful.
The stairs led all the way to the top of this 13 storey Pagoda; where a golden statue of Lord Buddha with open hand is situated; overlooking at Ipoh town. The Pagoda houses an enormous Sakyamuni Buddha statue but it is dusty and looks like it hasn't been maintained in years. The climb to the top of the pagoda will reward you with great views. Every floor of this pagoda is decorated with statues, deities and paintings depicting the rich mythology of Buddhism and a breathtaking view of Kinta Valley can be seen from the top.
We came to the main altar by 9 am to observe the ritual. Monks chanted sutras and disciples blowing horns and other traditional Tibetan instruments included in the processions. The masked dancers made the Charm dance in attractive costumes in elegant fashion.
We got a different kind of an experience by visiting Enlighten Heart Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Ipoh but it is great.Written 1 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We have been to Ipoh countless times but never visited this Birch Memorial Tower, which was to remember JWW Birch the assasinated 1st British Resident (Governor) of Perak State which was installed by the British at the end of the local wars between the 2 Malay rulers and 2 Chinese opposing tin mining clans/ secret societies, the Ghee Hin (cantonese) and Hai San (Hakka's). It was installed by his son, who became one of the following (9th ?) Resident himself. There are 4 pillars surrounding the clock, each representing a pillar of virtue (go and seek it out). it is located across the (not far but hidden from view) Ipoh train station, next to the state mosque and opposite the red OCBC bank. It is also along the path of Ipoh Heritage Walk along Ipoh Old Town just a stone throw away from all the famous eateries in Ipoh. I decided to review this as it took a foreign back backer to tell me about it. What I relished, was now noticing the bell chimes when I am walking around Ipoh old town. Now I have an extra place to introduce visitors. Not foreign to my own backyard anymore :-p)Written 29 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- jeff1955malaysiaTaiping, Malaysia786 contributionsThe Ipoh Town Hall was completed in 1916 and was designed by British Architect Arthur Benison Hubback. Originally it was the State Administrative Office together with the Post Office. Now because of it high maintanence cost it is used as a function hall for events. Currently under renovation.Written 19 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
