What a wonderful home for Penang’s musical history! We had a bit of difficulty finding the place (it’s on level 4 of the ICT mall) but so glad we persevered! We had a great tour with our 11 and 8 year old and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. You can feel the love of music in this place and it’s just seeped in history. We wish that the live music scene was able to be revived to its former glory it looked like SO much fun. Support this museum it’s a true labor of love.

This a fascinating and beautiful house. It is worth visiting for that reason alone, even if you have little interest in Sun Yat Sen - though the historical detail on his time in Penang was also interesting.

Such a fun experience! Pearly was lovely and a great teacher, it was such fun learning from her expertise. We really appreciated how her room included stoves and stations for each participant, so we all got to experience cooking each dish. The food we made under her tutelage was, needless to say, absolutely delicious!

A native friend recommended this market to go to for the best breakfast duck kway teow (flat rice noodles - gluten free) soup at only 6RM! There were also other local delicacies to enjoy like penang laksa, char kway teow, poh piah etc. Old school biscuit stand

I recently participated in an authentic Malaysian street food cooking class with Khalid in Georgetown, and I have to say it was an incredible experience. The class was held in a cozy kitchen, and Khalid was a great host and instructor. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the different street food dishes we were learning to make. He was able to explain the history and cultural significance of each dish, which made the class even more interesting.
The class size was small, with only 4 of us participating, which allowed for plenty of individual attention and hands-on experience. Khalid provided all the necessary ingredients and equipment, and he walked us through each step of the cooking process. We made a variety of street food dishes, including Nasi lemak, char Kway teow and Randang. Each one was delicious and authentic.
The class was a lot of fun and it was great to learn from Khalid. He was very patient and made sure that everyone understood the techniques and methods used in each dish. We all left the class feeling confident in our ability to recreate these street food dishes at home. I highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to experience the taste and culture of street food, or who wants to improve their cooking skills.

Took awhile to locate the door to the bar, full house at 930pm however fortunately got a seat. This hidden bar consists of 2 units with a walkway in between. Live band in 1 unit and the cocktail bar counter in the other unit.

Mandarin oriental vibes permutes throughout this joint - the interior, decor, lighting and waitress dress code (cheongsum). Love the vibes! Mandarin live band was amazing! In between sets, the DJ spinning is 👍🏼

Cocktails (RM45-62 per cocktail) were well balanced and innovative. All the cocktails we ordered were good - the Yuzu whiskey sour takes a slightly different style of the usual lemo whiskey sour which had more depth to it. Cixi’s opium puff as the name suggested was served with smoke released from a burning cinnamon kept on the glass and in a bell jar - 100% for esthetic and instagrammablity. The Dried grapes Negroni and Penang mule were slightly different renditions of the usual Negroni and Moscow mule.

Food offerings wise were more of finger food with a twist.

Grilled mussels with breadcrumbs were good. Siew mai infused with truffle oil was yummy when ate hot.

Btw, have to give it up to their marketing for the WiFi name “OrderFirst_WifiLater” 😂

Highly recommended for everything - ambience, cocktails, food, live bands, DJ.

Bespoke bar not so hidden from the main door & gate as the music was bursting 😂

Cocktails were great and had interesting names.

Had their special cocktail - xiao lung nu (小龙女) which was vodka, apricot liquor and pink dragon fruit.

Their new old fashioned was a special rendition of the usual - bourbon whiskey, stout and bitters.

Music wise more like a club. Saw tables playing dices and cards.

An excellent way to sample the food and history of George Town. Our hosts Bee and Jeremy were friendly and very knowledgeable introducing us to some amazing food we may not have found on our own. We also enjoyed following up on many of the recommendations provided after the tour. Would highly recommend this tour!

This foodtour was one of our best experiences on our travel through Malaysia. Jesi and Baptist are so friendly and authentic. Without the tour we would definitly have missed a lot of delicious food and a great being together!
