Had a lovely time on this river cruise. Klias River is beautiful. On the first cruise, we saw baby crocodiles, macaque monkeys, and proboscis monkeys. The tour guides (Jamil and James) were lovely and happily answered all our questions about the river biodiversity. They also stopped at multiple locations along the river to ensure everyone got to see things. The guides get the boat all the way to the shore, so getting good photos is purely dependent on the monkeys!! The dinner was tasty and plentiful. The second cruise to see the fireflies was also great. We got to see so many! For anyone wondering about the journey, I experienced great communication about pick up from my hotel (Marilyn is on WhatsApp). The journey was 2 hrs each way in a minibus/van with excellent aircon. Overall, I would recommend this one! Thanks Only in Borneo Tours!

We had an amazing day snorkelling around the islands near Kota Kinabalu. The trip was really well organised and Ian and Amir were great guides. They were friendly and their expert knowledge meant we saw some amazing animals! Can’t recommend enough, thank you!

Stunning setting with beautiful views on the river cruises. Great to see the proliferation of wildlife along the Oxbow lake, with the night cruise surpassing expectations!

Helpful descriptions from Jai during the cruises - thank you

The accommodation was great considering where it is. Chilling out in hammocks during the day was nice. Cold water washing was very refreshing! The food was good and the dining area very pleasant

Disappointed with the lack of wildlife on the Kinabatangan River proper (although it was beautiful)

The night walk felt very rushed and functional rather than a journey of discovery

The visit could also have been even better with more content between the various cruises / walks
It might cover more on the behavioural ecology of the animals. Maybe on the flora (the guides had very little to say on this). And perhaps on the sustainability angle and what’s going on with plantations in the surrounding area. It would be great to know more and discuss more with knowledgable people.

It was also rather odd that on the third day we did not get to go on the morning cruise but instead had to pack up and be ready for a prompt departure an hour after the cruise returned. It did feel like missing out…

As we have only a few hours time before we want to drive to Kundasang, the company was able to specially arranged the tour for just the 2 of us to one island which is the Manukan as we wanted.
Our young tour guide, Zack showed us around the beautiful island and brought us to an area that’s away from the crowd which is very nice and helped to take very nice photos for us as he knows where and what to capture. He also shared some information on Kundasang with us because we were going there in the afternoon. We are happy with his service and really enjoyed the trip.

Wonderful day with guide Gavin. Just my wife and I on the tour. Comfortable air conditioned 6 seater vehicle with water provided. Great stops on the way. Suspension bridge with local musical show and market. Then another market and a view of the mountain. Gavin was very knowledgeable around the botanical gardens at Kinabalu Park and provided ponchos to protect us from the rain. On to Poring Springs and an exciting experience on the rooftop canopy walk. This was followed by a nice lunch of local foods and finally around one hour and a quarter in the springs and rock pool. Long drive back to kota Kinabalu but we were lucky to see a rafflesia on the journey, and also try a durian from a road side stall.

We were not expecting a guided tour - nor the obligatory planned transport - having previously visited the Cultural Village at Damai, outside Kuching. So we booked the tour through our hotel, were picked upon a small mini-van and drove out to Miri Miri. The guild es all seemed to be excellent, based on our guide and those we over-heard. The different tribal houses were interesting and sufficiently varied. The additional exhibits were actually in many ways more fascinating - cooking, making alcohol, etc - with samples for the visitors. Lunch was also included and was much enjoyed by all. Well worth the day out, and although we aren’t “tour” people, the level of organisation was unobtrusive and the half day trip very enjoyable.

I highly recommend this tour. It was a wonderful experience being fully immersed in the jungle. The lodge is basic but its all about the location. Guides were also so kind and we even saw a wild orangutan.

A good tour to see the Proboscis Monkey endemic to Borneo. Quite a drive from our hotel ~ 2 hours (would be quicker but for the roadworks along the way)

A tour along the river to see 3 types of Monkey including Proboscis, Macaque and silver languor. Also a tree snake swimming across the river. Many varieties of birds. A stop for a buffet dinner then after dark another cruise along the river to see fireflies in the trees.

Fireflies sparkled like stars along the riverbanks.

Another ~2 hour journey back to the hotel.

Left hotel @ 2 pm and returned @ 9 pm

Island staff on Sapi and Manukan roped off the reef with fish& coral and only allowed snorkelling where the bottom was sandy and barren. Most people put on the (sign said essential) life jacket and saw nothig. I swam over to the coral and whistles and horns and eventually a lifeguard on a foam kayak insisted I move away back to the barren sand. I explained I was experienced snorkeller, that I would not tread or touch the coral or fish to no avail. Defeated the whole exercise.

    This is an interesting tour.
You get to see genuine local village and houses, a cruise through the mangroves where you can see various wildlife including monkeys. After dark you do get to see the fireflies. We did not see many as the moon was full so not as dark as it can get. It was still a good experience. You then have a meal in the village which is reasonable quality, the villagers are very friendly and helpful.
    Would recommend.

We started off with bad weather when travelling up to Kundasan. Glad the sky cleared up and the view was amazing. The experience was great and the ice cream from the dairy farm was yummy too! Thanks to our guide Hector.
