- TinaWatts333Mayland, UK231 contributionsHad a fabulous trek into Bako National park and we got to see lots of different animals and creatures including the elusive Proboscis Monkey which I got an awesome video of.
Green vipers everywhere!
Flying Lemurs, spiders amongst other things. I’d say you need to be quite able to navigate the trek up and down the thick tree roots but overall, a welcome relief from the city to get into the forest and it isn’t too hard work.
I did speak to a cpl in their 70s who found it a tad too difficult for them.Written 23 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are placards with QR codes but I didn’t want to spend my battery so signs with text would have been much more preferred!! The 45-minute dance performance at the end was a highlight. Beautiful costumes and music. The ticket is quite expensive but slightly cheaper if bought online.
There is also a poor, whelping scruffy, medium terrier milling around. Please someone feed it!! And eventually spay. Shame on the site management for not caring for this poor pup.Written 14 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - mel7155Singapore, Singapore1,347 contributionsWe hiked in this mountain as an alternative as the park to climb mount Santubong was closed without notice. So we were in our hiking outfit without any mountain to climb . As such, asked our driver to drop us off at this mountain to hike up the metal road for 5.4km .
It is 30minutes away from Kuching or Mount Santubung so make sure to arrange for transport there and return transport as it is very difficult to get a ride hail there .
Entrance fee is US$4 per foreign person and US$2 for locals . You need to register , log in and log out at the park office . Thereafter hike up 700m to the near peak on a steep mountain road that never seem to flatten . The views from the top is nice and there are benches and covered pavilion to rest enroute . The waterfall route and jungle route is disable if they did not close it off . Otherwise a very good place to workout and hike . Good for a 4 hour hike . It is not Mount santubung, but a little safer to hike in a rainy day which is very common in this area where it rains literally everyday around the year . The only difference is how intense the rain is that they shut the mountains from climbers - especially Mount Sabtubung .Written 1 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Feels very safe, no pressure re boat trips or restaurants.
Free light show at 8:30 and 9:30 nightly.
Lots of photo opportunities
Shame about some of the rubbish in the river but they do try to clean it up.

While we did not hike to the top we were impressed by the low cloud over the peak.Written 24 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Leanda DTownsville49 contributionsAs a crazy cat lady as soon as I read about this I knew I had to go. Located on the lobby floor of the Kuching North City Hall about 10kms from the waterfront/city centre, I spent around 2 hours there. It is comprised of 4 galleries with over 4000 items dedicated to all things feline. The first gallery has several taxidermy specimens, these looked scruffy and tired (and were vaguely disturbing) but nonetheless it was good to see the various species of the area. The rest of the exhibition contained sculptures, artworks and even fashion dedicated to our feline friends. There is a cafeteria in the lobby selling hot food, drinks and snacks.Written 26 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Linda CToronto, Canada82 contributionsFor me, getting to the longhouse was the best part. Myself and a fellow traveller hired a driver/guide to do a day tour including Semenggoh Nature Reserve and two long houses. Annah Rais was interesting to see, people seemed friendly considering the volume of tourists they must normally see (tourism way down because of COVID, few weeks before lockdown). The drive to Annah Rais was beautiful, the highlight of the day. We made many stops to explore and take photos along the way.Written 11 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 49karenlSudbury, UK139 contributionsBeing very interested in wildlife of all description we opted to visit the Wetlands Park once early morning and then in the evening.
Both trips were enjoyable and interesting for different reasons,
in the morning we saw the Irrawady snub nosed dolphins and a
wonderful specimen of crocodile and in the eveing we were once againl lucky enough to see the dolphins and the proboscis
monkeys. Highly enjoyableWritten 11 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Ronnie502014Spalding, UK57 contributionsI was based at Matang with project Borneo booked through great projects uk . Was only there a week, so wished I had booked longer.
The Staff were great and genuinely love theses forgotten animals, especially Dom who went beyond, to help everyone. I’m not going to lie I’m a little bit in love with this man and his lifetimes work with orangutang. His knowledge of the forest, was impressive.
The daily work is hard, and it will test your morals about animal conservation in Borneo.
The accommodation is basic but we all survived lol.. the other volunteers were super fun and we laughed lots, but that’s not to say we were all very concerned about the conditions theses beautiful creatures were kept in.
Want to send a shout out to Steve the volunteer facilitator, a very patient man with us all and an animal lover to his bones.
The enrichment making in the Afternoon, then watching the animals enjoying our labours was priceless.
If you are thinking of going don’t hesitate. It’s a life changing experience.Written 13 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
