    Venue for Rainforest Music Festival
    Located 35km from Kuching city center.
    Entrance fee for non-Sarawakians is RM85 while fee for Sarawakians is RM30.
    Highlight is the cultural show featuring traditional dancers. Make sure you don't miss it!

    It's interesting to see the native longhouse replicas.

    Iban longhouse - Most common type of longhouse that exist today in interior Sarawak.

    Bidayuh barok - Large round hut with a central fireplace. My favorite type of longhouse.

    Orang Ulu longhouse - Longhouse on tall stilts.

    Melanau tall house - This house is even taller than the Orang Ulu longhouse. Gigantic house sitting on tree trunks. Marvellous piece of engineering.

    Penan hut - Small house.

    Come in the morning as it tends to rain during evenings in Kuching.

    Kuching waterfront
    Nice view.
    Peaceful atmosphere. Good place for selfie, dating, taking stroll, brisk walking or jogging

    Morning or Evenings at the Riverfront
    A really great place to hang out and to enjoy the scenery. The waterfront and the bridge is nice but so is the light and music show at 8:30pm.

    There are plenty of vendors and stalls along the waterfront.

    There is also an ice-cream stall IG Gula Apong Ais Krim which uses the sugar of the Nipah palm that results in a rich, aromatic kind of sugar that is really unique.

    There is a river cruise as well which just adds to the excitement of the whole area.

    Architecture
    This place is architecturally pleasing. There is a decent small museum and places to eat and drink. This is opposite the waterfront.

    Getting there
    For me, getting to the longhouse was the best part. Myself and a fellow traveller hired a driver/guide to do a day tour including Semenggoh Nature Reserve and two long houses. Annah Rais was interesting to see, people seemed friendly considering the volume of tourists they must normally see (tourism way down because of COVID, few weeks before lockdown). The drive to Annah Rais was beautiful, the highlight of the day. We made many stops to explore and take photos along the way.

    Bridge between north and south Kuching
    Magnificent suspension bridge connecting north Kuching (DUN, Fort Margherita) and the historical south district. Went at night when the bridge and DUN building lit up.

    Not bad temple
    A good short visit to a small temple, free entry and you only need 10-15 mins to see it all. Makes for some good photos. Situated in middle of roundabout.

    The best view of the mosque is from the Kuching bridge over the river during the sunset. You can get the whole city background in the pic.

    Harmony Arch
    From Waterfront hotel, you can see the Harmony Arch which marks the entrance into Carpenter Street. The street is narrow and it is difficult to find a parking spot if you come by car. Goldsmiths, cafes, backpacker hostels, and of course carpenters line the street. On weekends, most shops are closed except for eateries like Lau Ya Keng and Aladdin Chicken Rice.

    I would suggest visiting Carpenter Street during weekdays, when the shops are open for business and you can fully immerse in the hustle and bustle.

    Kuching landmark
    Kuching is known as cat city, so there are numerous cat statues scattered all over town. This cat monument is by far the most popular.

    If you have time, do take a 10 minutes walk to visit the Padungan roundabout white cat statue as well.

    To Frienship between Malaysia and China
    Easy to get to being to only a 30 minute walk from the Waterfront and situated in a nice suburban area Jalan Song, the park is tidy compact and well organized. Two parts to the park , one the introduction to the other states in Malaysia and the other Chinese Tea Pavilion, and zig zag bridge overlooking the large pond. The pond is full of huge Koi Carp and other colorful fish. Around the park is a walk way /jogging track.

    Good if your child loves crocodiles
    My son is a reptile lover and he loves this place. I don’t think there is many places where you can see this many crocodiles. They have some random and sad looking birds, and some goats around but the highlight was the crocodiles. We missed the feeding time but my son enjoyed it nonetheless.

    Fun
    I did a bike ride around Kuching & we came across quite a few of the murals.
    They were great fun & good to photograph.

    Imposing palace opposite the waterfront
    As this is the official residence of the Governor of Sarawak, the palace is not opened to visitors. The only time it is opened is during the Hari Raya celebration where the gate is open to visitors. Very attractive grounds outside.

    Impressive building
    This building can be found on the opposite bank of the Sarawak River from the main Kuching town and right beside the Durul Hana Bridge, it is the State parliament building. It is not open for general tourists however even from the outside it is an impressive building. At night the musical fountain plays on the edge of the river at 8 and 9:30 in front of the building.
