I went on my own to visit this excellent historical museum of the remarkable recent history of Kuching since the mid-1800s, and the White Rajahs who governed. Super interesting, and in an awesome fort (Fort Margerita) positioned over the river to repel pirates.

To get there from the Kuching waterfront, I tried and failed to walk from the Darul Hana bridge- but you can't walk past the parliament. Instead, take a little boat across the river, ad then it's a short (10 minute) walk up to the fortress.

Fun little activity to do if you have time, although it is of course a little strange. It was good though to learn about the history of the name of ‘Kuching’, and it was also exciting to see information on Manx Cats being mentioned. It was fun reminiscing about famous cats, I.e ones in films etc. Entry is cheap and can spend at least half an hour here.

If you are looking to have loads of fun, this is the right place to stop by. Suitable for children, the young and young at heart. My daughter(29) and I enjoyed ourselves so much. We had loads of cool pictures to share with family and friends.

The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, they assisted us on how to pose for the best pictures. I had reservations at first but they were super helpful and immediately put us at ease. They attended to us throughout the 2 hrs we were there.

You'd be lucky to have the whole place to yourselves but even if there are other couples or groups, everyone would be having too much fun to feel shy. The best is, there is no time limit for the amount you pay, so go ahead, get clicking and enjoy youselves!

The best view of the mosque is from the Kuching bridge over the river during the sunset. You can get the whole city background in the pic.

If you like history, visit both this Fort and the exhibition at the Old Courthouse. They detail the Brooke family who ruled Sarawak for 100 years. Take a sampan over the river to the Fort - only 1 ringgit each way.

Having been all over the world a bit and seeing world-class top-flight museums, this was a welcome experience. In general, museums in South-east Asia are a bit drab and boring but this one was excellent. It is on par I feel with the Natural History museum of Singapore which is already world-class.

Plenty of exhibits, including an interactive kids floor (ground) and good spacing, lighting and ambiance. I wish I had more than 3 hours but it's worth another visit to me.

if you are interested in textiles and ethnographic handicrafts there are some quietly stunning pieces in here. Plenty of info in English and well set out. Just a small exhibition. Count on about 45 minutes to see it. Free entry as are the other museums in town.

Located at the Old Courthouse down near the Kuching Waterfront is this interesting and compact air-conditioned museum dedicated to Margaret, Ranee of Sarawak.
Born in France in 1849, she lived her childhood in England before venturing to Sarawak and becoming the wife (Ranee) of the White Rajah of Sarawak. The exhibition is comprehensive and concise with a good selection of information, photographs and artifacts detailing Margaret's life and experiences in Sarawak, the whole exhibition was engaging. The gift store had an interesting number of good quality souvenirs to purchase: books, jewelery, coffee and more.

Ordered a piece of furniture (a bench) from them to be dispatched internationally by sea. They carefully took my order and gave an estimated time of arrival. The package was expectedly late (its 2020 and coronavirus is everywhere), but when I got the package everything was in order and neatly packed. Not a scratch or anything in sight. Dont be afraid to shop with them!

This place is a photogenic building by the Waterfront. It has been turned into a restaurant so unless you are eating there, you won't be able to go in.

The collection may be small but the items on show are interesting. The staff are very knowledgeable about Iban weaving. Would love to join one of their weaving and dyeing workshops.

The Urang Sarawak ‘Pameran Tentang Kita’ Exhibition displays different historical traits of the Sarawak people. Very interesting since it covers the sociocultural lifestyles of the Sarawak people, including religion, cosmology and cultural arts.
