- TinaWatts333Mayland, UK231 contributionsHad a fabulous trek into Bako National park and we got to see lots of different animals and creatures including the elusive Proboscis Monkey which I got an awesome video of.
Green vipers everywhere!
Flying Lemurs, spiders amongst other things. I’d say you need to be quite able to navigate the trek up and down the thick tree roots but overall, a welcome relief from the city to get into the forest and it isn’t too hard work.
I did speak to a cpl in their 70s who found it a tad too difficult for them.Written 23 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So we were in our hiking outfit without any mountain to climb . As such, asked our driver to drop us off at this mountain to hike up the metal road for 5.4km .
It is 30minutes away from Kuching or Mount Santubung so make sure to arrange for transport there and return transport as it is very difficult to get a ride hail there .
Entrance fee is US$4 per foreign person and US$2 for locals . You need to register , log in and log out at the park office . Thereafter hike up 700m to the near peak on a steep mountain road that never seem to flatten . The views from the top is nice and there are benches and covered pavilion to rest enroute . The waterfall route and jungle route is disable if they did not close it off . Otherwise a very good place to workout and hike . Good for a 4 hour hike . It is not Mount santubung, but a little safer to hike in a rainy day which is very common in this area where it rains literally everyday around the year . The only difference is how intense the rain is that they shut the mountains from climbers - especially Mount Sabtubung .Written 1 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Both trips were enjoyable and interesting for different reasons,
in the morning we saw the Irrawady snub nosed dolphins and a
wonderful specimen of crocodile and in the eveing we were once againl lucky enough to see the dolphins and the proboscis
monkeys. Highly enjoyableWritten 11 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However instructions on how to hike there are disappointing to say the least. Before our hike, all I got were poor descriptions on facebook and a blog. Here are detailed instructions on how to hike there: Starting where Google Maps labels "Kampung Teluk Melano" (the "Welcome to Telok Melano sign" (see photo); walk north along the beach until almost as far as you can go (there is a rock formation at the end of the beach). You will need to traverse a small estuary of which you will get your feet/shoes wet. Be prepared for this. Be on the lookout for the orange paint markers on the tree trunks to your left. After approximately 1km walking along the beach, head into the forest and you will see a brick house (see photo). Walk past this house (with it on your left) and follow the trees with orange paint. The hike to Tanjung Datu Park HQ is in total 5km and not 3.7km as per the website. It should take approximately 1.5-2 hours depending on your fitness level. The track is technical at the start and undulating. It becomes easier as you approach park HQ.
The various tracks at the National Park are specified at the wrong distance.
Pasir Antu Laut track is 6.4km return from Park HQ
Belian track is 3.7km return from Park HQ
Viewpoint track is CLOSED
Also note, there is no Rafflesia at this national park as they have been trampled upon by earlier tourists.
Overall, this park is a nice little gem. We were lucky enough to watch hawkbill turtles being released whilst we were there. Beaches are pristine and untouched.Written 26 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The next day, we hired a boat to take us into Maludam National Park. Very interesting lowlands, We saw water monitors, some birds (eagles), a few more bird species, and plenty of crocs. It works out better had we gotten into the park a bit earlier, but it is still interesting...Maludam is a very traditional town, plenty of small open air cafes and food places.Written 15 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DayTrip062172827571 contributionVisited the lodge for accommodation, a tour package, and a bamboo raft workshop. I never cease to admire this magical place every time I return. It’s amazing to witness both the beauty of nature and the kindness of the people who built this wonderful place and community from scratch. I feel grateful that the hosts and local community are eager to share the wisdom passed down by their ancestors and the beauty of their homeland. Plus, they always make sure you never feel hungry.Written 11 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
