- Ronnie502014Spalding, UK57 contributionsI was based at Matang with project Borneo booked through great projects uk . Was only there a week, so wished I had booked longer.
The Staff were great and genuinely love theses forgotten animals, especially Dom who went beyond, to help everyone. I’m not going to lie I’m a little bit in love with this man and his lifetimes work with orangutang. His knowledge of the forest, was impressive.
The daily work is hard, and it will test your morals about animal conservation in Borneo.
The accommodation is basic but we all survived lol.. the other volunteers were super fun and we laughed lots, but that’s not to say we were all very concerned about the conditions theses beautiful creatures were kept in.
Want to send a shout out to Steve the volunteer facilitator, a very patient man with us all and an animal lover to his bones.
The enrichment making in the Afternoon, then watching the animals enjoying our labours was priceless.
If you are thinking of going don’t hesitate. It’s a life changing experience.Written 13 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We saw orangutangs, honey bears, porcupines, bearcat, moneys, amazing birds and a deer. Didn't see crocodiles (area under maint). About 45 mins by Grab from town (50MYR). We arranged for Grab driver to return for us as transport difficult. Must wear closed in shoes. Good interpretation centre and clean toiletsWritten 27 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DayTrip062172827571 contributionVisited the lodge for accommodation, a tour package, and a bamboo raft workshop. I never cease to admire this magical place every time I return. It’s amazing to witness both the beauty of nature and the kindness of the people who built this wonderful place and community from scratch. I feel grateful that the hosts and local community are eager to share the wisdom passed down by their ancestors and the beauty of their homeland. Plus, they always make sure you never feel hungry.Written 11 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
