What travellers are saying
- Pecker B7 contributionsThe first thing we saw was the real Atomic Bomb Dome, which is the only structure still standing from that terrible day. It was located under the Hypocentre, which is where the bomb exploded around 600 feet above ground.Written 9 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - synTorontoToronto, Canada1,399 contributionsOn our visit, we could see that the peace museum and park has made changes from our first visit about 24 years ago,
While the main components are the same such as the arch, atomic dome and children’s peace monument, certain items have been added such as a separate small building showing the G7 visit to the peace park and their declarations, a small house with an archaeological display of ruins and effects from the blast, and an underground memorial giving voice to victims.
All of this is free.
Many may be inclined to take that one picture through the centre arch to the peace dome, but it is worth exploring the entire peace park area for all the new additions to complement the previous ones.Written 8 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DeedicoBrisbane23 contributionsIf you have time when travelling to Hiroshima then go and watch a Carp game. It doesn’t matter if you understand baseball a little, a lot or not at all (my partner had never seen a game in her life) but it’s a blast. Noise, synchronised cheering, weird balloon things after the 7th innings, food of all kinds, baseball and an awesome, passionate and friendly crowd who included us in their Carp-u love. We bought tickets the day before from the stadium and got the best seats on 3rd base infield line for around $40 AUD (try doing that for sport in Australia).Written 28 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Susi P6 contributionsWonderful temple in the forest glades on the outskirts of Hiroshima. A very peaceful trip away from the usual busy tourist spots. When we visited we had the place to ourselves, so can recommend this if you are looking for some sanctuary from the crowds.Written 10 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TassieTravellers99Launceston, Australia3,316 contributionsLocated in the Peace Park is this peaceful memorial commemorating the victims of the A bomb. It offers a view through the cenotaph to the ever burning flame of peace and to the A bomb dome. A place of reflection.Written 22 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dingo_6152Fremantle, Australia3,327 contributionsLocated on a quiet side street, this small simple plaque is a stark reminder of such a significant human tragedy. I’d suggest that before you go to the atomic bomb dome, peace park and other memorials you take the time to visit the exact spot where that fateful atomic bomb exploded. The irony is that the detonation was directly above a small private hospital, the founders of which have since rebuilt the facility. To be on the very site of the hypocenter (ground zero) for me is so more poignant than most of the other memorials to that day and the events that unfolded.Written 4 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joy LIsland of Hawaii, HI47 contributionsNice pano view from the top which viewing is sloped to allow everyone access to the views and not just those at the railing. Activities include a wall from which you drop paper cranes, a sloping walkway down with murals and an indoor slide from floor to floor.Written 1 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bernard WDallas, TX1,914 contributionsVisitors may ring this bell of peace in the name of peace. Around the bell is etched a world map without borders. There are lotus flowers around water surrounding the bell.Written 5 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsThe mound contains the ashes of unclaimed victims from the atomic bomb and is at the north end of the Peace Memorial Park. We had a quick stop here and it is my understanding that on the sixth of each month a memorial service is hosted here by different religious denominations as a call to peace.
We spent maybe 10 minutes in this spot and there are some English and Japanese signs in the area. We spent a few hours on the Peace Memorial Island because there is a lot of symbols of peace and exhibitions to see.Written 5 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a short ferry ride from this port to the Miyajima Island. For both rides, I used my ICOCA prepaid card.Written 8 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DonCesarNuremberg, Germany1,995 contributionsThe classic roofed commercial street that is in almost every town, this one has less life and neon, but it has the stores and restaurantsWritten 24 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsThe Peace Flame is located in Peace Memorial park and has been continuously burning since 1964 and will continue to burn until there are no nuclear weapons left in the world. We spent a few minutes looking at the flame but more time in the Peace Memorial Park area because there a lots of interesting items to see. Plan to spend a few hours in the area if you have an interest as there are a number of peace related exhibits in the area. The Peace Flame is located in the northern part of the Peace Memorial Park and the area is very walkable.Written 5 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
