- DrDouglas1971Edinburgh, UK180 contributionsNestled amongst the skyscrapers and malls of KLCC is this hidden Historical gem.
Originally lived in by a local Headsman, his 4 wives and numerous children, in a small village in the Northern part of Peninsula Malaysia, it was rescued, relocated and restored in 1996-1997, taking a week to dismantle and over a year to restore.
Arriving for the first tour on a Saturday morning I pleasantly surprised to be the only visitor and after watching an informative video on the history and restoration of the building it was time for the guided tour.
The gentleman intern and his colleague who undertook the tour were so friendly and informative throughout, pointing our interesting details and telling tales along the way. It really is a fascinating house. As well as being the village chief he was also judge & jailer and the building reflects that - I shan’t spoil any of the details as I urge you to visit and discover for yourself.
There is also a wee gift shop, garden and more exhibitions adding to the charm of the place.
In a busy city like Kuala Lumpar not only is The Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman a must for any culture or history buff but also a green and leafy space to enjoy some R&R amid the hustle & bustle. I do hope (& encourage) more people to visit but have to admit I did enjoy my VIP tour and look forward to visiting again.Written 13 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
