What travellers are saying
- Elizabeth KSan Jose, CA173 contributionsGreat museum for anyone interested in things with wheels! We spent a couple of hours walking through the exhibits and my kids (ages 9 and 10) were not bored at all! Beautiful facility, nicely laid out, friendly staff and well-stocked gift shop. Bridge over the track leads to some paths with sculptures, benches, water features, etc. Worth a walk around. Plan to spend lots of time here!Written 25 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- NanolaMarieHornell, NY91 contributionsThis is a must see when in Birmingham. It has all the elements of a great museum! It is informative, easy to follow and extremely engaging! Everyone should see this museum to learn about the struggles of minorities in our country. It is piece of history that is so intrinsic to our society.Written 21 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mommy1IndianaScottsburg, IN285 contributionsEven though we didn’t get to experience everything in bloom, we can imagine how beautiful it must be! We got lucky visiting on a beautiful February day so the parking lot was full and there were lots of people. Love that this is free! We enjoyed the Japanese gardens and all the paths.Written 26 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Vivian B8 contributionsThe view is amazing!!! We went to see Vulcan but didn’t realize that the view of Birmingham would be the star of the show. The museum is really good as wellWritten 20 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- trapezoidhdDurham, NC40 contributionsThe Birmingham Museum was a mind-blowing, unexpected surprise to this art aficionado, having been to over 150 museums in the U.S. First, the noble and grand building is a work of art itself with the collection showing off its holdings exquisitely. Most every period is represented, with the second floor devoted to a stellar holding (for a museum of this size) African, Asian, Pre-Columbian & Native American work. The BMOA features some of the finest handiwork of many artists, e.g, Theodore Butler, Frank Duveneck, Henry Raeburn, Ernest Lawson, John Twachtmann - mostly pivotal American artists. The cafe lunch was terrific, and the staff at this institution could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. This is clearly one of Birmingham's treasures and makes a visit to this city a must!Written 3 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NanolaMarieHornell, NY91 contributionsThis is such an amazing piece of American history. I highly recommend taking the time to visit this landmark! It is absolutely amazing to see the workmanship of this place.Written 21 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - abroadwithashleyMinneapolis, MN1,444 contributionsWe came here the summer before, but on a weekend - which is when they are closed (unless there is a game, which is apparently often in the summer) so we were only able to see the outside. This time we got to see it all. It’s a bit amazing that a piece of American history this old is a “free to roam” situation, but this makes the experience all the better. If you are interested in baseball at all, Birmingham is a great city for it, and Rickwood is part of that. Bring a camera as well since there’s plenty to photograph.Written 16 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We arrived late to pass 2 pm but church is already closed but we did not disappointed b cause they have history outside by church’s window and by Civil Rights nest church about sad story of innocent black young kids.Written 24 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - abroadwithashleyMinneapolis, MN1,444 contributionsInfamous park. This is best visited before the Civil Rights Institute as they have a room where you can view the park from above and its better to have a bit of context from the information in the park (if you aren’t already familiar with the history) when viewing it from above. Allow yourself 10-15 minutes for all of the signage and as long as you need for the park itself.Written 16 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
