This was a wonderful way for my husband and I to visit all three centers in one day as we were unfortunately short on time. Our driver Agus picked us up at 8am as planned and together with our guide Siti. Siti was extremely friendly and she explained to us all about the Orang Utans and Sun Bears arranging our arrival at each center to coincide with feeding time and thus giving us a chance to see the animals at close range. The nursery in the Orang Utan center is particularly interesting. Lunch, a local chicken dish was delicious. We also managed to fit in on special request the Proboscis Monkey Center, a real treat. If I was to change anything I would possibly have spent less time at the Rainforest Discovery Center and more time with the Orang Utans. Overall a great day, thanks to our guide Siti and driver Agus.

We really loved staying here. The location is isolated from other lodges so we we’re the only people in the area, which is quite unique. We saw lots of animals and you have a good variety of activities from morning/afternoon and evening boat tours and night walk. Ofcourse you can have bad luck with the animals you can spot.. But we even saw orang oetans right infront of the lodge. The facilities are quite primitive, so you can enjoy the full jungle experience. But there is a normal toilet and the room is fine. You will not be hungry because there is enough food, and it was tasty!
Our tour guide Jai was lovely, told us everything you need to know about the area and the animals living there. Also the rest of the team is very kind and helpful. We would fully recommend coming here!

I had a great experience and a wonderful day. I hired a guide (Abdul Qayyum, + 6011-16695114) to take me to Labuk Bay and a night firefly tour on the river. He is an exceptional guide and provided excellent service. He pointed out birds and other sights along the way.

We arrived just in time for the feeding. The monkeys put on quite a show. It’s sad that they have lost their habitat and are forced to rely on humans to feed them. The sanctuary is inside a palm oil plantation. Talk about irony.

We had a great taxi driver, dinner and afternoon tea at the local village was plentiful and presented well for home cooked village cooking. The toilets were really clean. The trip up the river to the island was magical and the sunset fantastic- we had time to chat with the local policemen who are based on the island. The fireflies are like lit up Christmas trees and we even saw a little crocodile and monkeys- well worth it

What a privilege to see these amazing wild animals in their natural habitat. We did the 2D1N package and were fortunate to get a really good view of Pygmy elephants and an Orang Utan along with various monkeys and other creatures, birds and insects. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere at the center, the staff are all very friendly especially our guide Apel. If you have the time 3D2N is possibly a good option, you will give you more opportunities to see more wildlife. I thought the food at the center was delicious but you might want to bring a few snacks for the journey there on the bus which took about 31/2 hours as we were one of the first to be picked up in Sandakan.

We had an amazing day . Really pleased with pick up and drop of at our hotel the Shangrila rasa ria as had read earlier reviews cars were always waiting for us excellent service. Our guide was knowledgeable and ensured we got to viewing early to get best view before it got busy . We went to see the orangutan but have to say the probiscous monkeys were a real highlight for us as so many and came so close. Would recommend trip to other travellers especially if worried about pick ups to airport etc.

It's a 2 hour drive there on pretty ordinary roads & a 2 hour drive back for a 2 hour boat cruise. Our boat experienced engine trouble & so we sat stranded on the river for an hour. The tour operators were good about it & refunded half our money. But because we were only there for a day tour, we missed out on a lot. We only saw monkeys. Which is cool, but we were hopeful of a lot more. So if you are serious about this, stay for a day or 2 & do multiple river trips. We had hoped to see pygmy elephants, but they hadn't been spotted for a long time. It is suspected that because there is a lot of water around in December, so they don't need to come to the river to drink. You might have a better chance in the dry season. We were told by people who did the night walks that the mosquitoes were think & the trails muddy. And they didn't see a great deal of wildlife. Sleeping birds were probably the main thing they saw. But with wildlife tours, you can be lucky or not.

Mixed review on this one as we were highly anticipating the day and had booked it as my birthday treat. Single mum 3 teens. The caves were worth the visit - smelly but great to see - disappointed nobody advised us the collecting nests would start the next day as we would have changed the date to see this. Arrived for lunch in loads of time and hung around for 3 hours for Boat trip. Didnt realise people were heading to the jetty to queue for the boat so we were last on and could not sit together. All the tourists who had been on the boat already knew the best seats were on the outside so everyone took these first leaving single seats left spread out. The boat was crammed with 20 guests whilst on the water we saw other companies with smaller boats and less people and this would have been our preference. The trip was great the wildlife was fab and we enjoyed it just disappointed not to be sitting together with my kids on my birthday when we were first to arrive at the venue. If you go queue up at the jetty ready to jump on the boat or book with another company with smaller numbers.

Such a beautiful hotel, there is a feeling that you stay in botanical garden. 5 mins walk from Orangutan’s center, which is super handy. Fantastic lake view at restaurant area. Food with a twist, which is very rare.
The only weird thing was a service at restaurant. All personal was very friendly but there was something missing, we had a feeling that it was something wrong in the team. Be aware, the restaurant is closed at 2100 and no more service of any kind.

The layout of the Pasar is normal to other wet markets. Price of sea products is much cheaper than in Semenanjung. Although turtle eggs are forbidden there is still offer for it at a quite cheap price. Please don't buy and boycott this activity.

I visited Sandakan to took an individual nature tour. I enjoyed watching endangered animals roam freely in their natural habitat, including observing a feeding session at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, seeing a troop of proboscis monkeys, and getting up close to a very rare Malay bear. Since I’m traveling by myself and planned to spend only one night in Sandakan, I contacted Eddie in advance to let him know the places I wanted to see and he pre-scheduled the appropriate tour content to ensure a lean trip. In my free time, I was taken to Sandakan town, food markets, and buffet lunches where only locals come, and I was able to experience things that I would not have been able to experience with other tour guides, thanks to their careful guidance. The car used for guiding was clean, new, and a great ride. I would definitely recommend him!

We had an Awesome day with Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Tour. Rasa Ria Resort planned the trip thanks to Ridhwan on the front concierge.

Picked up at 4.30 by private car and taken to The airport port. 45 mins after take off we were landing at Sandakam. Then met up with two other guests from OZ for a packed day from start to finish.

Stop 1. Coffee and local breakfast cake roll thing. And the loo.

Stop 2. Speilok Orang Utan Sanctuary.
All animals are within the jungle. It is you who is controlled and put in little boxes.
You walk on platforms high up within the jungle and stop at observation towers.

Halim, our guide was informative and knowledgeable. Answered all the questions we had. The orang Utans all have names and features that the keepers can tell them a part from.

We started with baby feeding time to go onto the big boys. All fun to watch as they SRAN into action when food appeared.
After a rather warm morning it was off to

Stop 3. the Proboscis Monkeys who are a little unusual to say the least.

Stop 4. Around 1.00 now. Lunch at the Banana cafe. Rather good! Don’t believe all that you read. Some people want the Ritz in the middle of a jungle area! Don’t forget that loo stop!!!!

Stop 5. The Sun Bears also called Honey bears although they should be called horny bears as one climbed over his ares fence and now there is a baby sun bear.

Stop 6. Back to Orang Utans for afternoon din dins

Stop 7. Back to the airport for 4.00 to get the 5.15 plane back arriving home by 8.00 for a shower and evening dinner……..phew!

Expensive yes, approx £220 each all in, cars and flights you can see where the costs build up.

    Worth it……YES.

This was the highlight of my trip to Malaysia and Indonesia. Such a professional company. Great communication, even when we had to change hotels last minute.

    Highly recommend.

I came here again recently after the slow reopening post-Covid and was pleased to see that both sanctuaries' sterling work rehabilitating the animals was continuing apace. The bears at the Conservation Centre appeared to be thriving while the orphaned orang utans at Sepilok were the epitome of 'well cared for'. It is depressing that the number of orphaned apes appeared to have increased since my previous visit but their robust physical health gave glimpses of a potentially brighter future. This Tour is highly worthwhile as it combines both adjacent centres and affords one an insight into each one's excellent work.
