I’ve been to a couple of Mosques around the world and each has its own beauty and signature but Malacca Straits Mosque right by the Straits of Malacca is for me one of the most beautiful I’ve been to. Inaugurated in 2006 on a man-made island in Malacca. Built with Malay/Middle Eastern aesthetics and craftsmanship. This Gold-domed mosque with glass panelled archways is indeed a true work of masterpiece showcasing the arts of Malaysia and imprinting the significance of Islam in the Straits of Malacca. The overall aesthetics of White and Gold truly reflects the nearby beauty of the Sea and Land where the mosque stands in the middle. Even more beautiful during sunrise and sunset and during high tide it appears to float in the middle of the sea.

We took Grab from Malacca Square which is maybe around 10 mins drive only. We arrived late in the afternoon so its not too hot already. There is a huge rotunda with garden at the center upon entering. Entrance is free, however, if you would go inside the Mosque you must wear the appropriate outfit as sign of respect and there is rental fee. Especially if you’re wearing shorts and skirts with open shoulders and knees. You could rent their traditional shawl or scarf for about 5 RMB only. We rented 2 shawls because we were wearing shorts and went inside the public access area of the mosque.

The front facade is utterly beautiful and majestic especially the Golden dome with its stunning Tiffany blue layering they really blended well. Pictures are not allowed inside but we crossed up to the back of the mosque facing the calm blue waters of the Malacca straits with the sun about to set over the horizon. The back is equally immaculate with its intricate stained glass archeway. We of course didn’t forget to take our lovely and memorable photos and videos at both sides and they were amazing!!!

If you don’t wanna go inside they allow public access to the right side of the beach without wearing any shawls or scarf. The rocky coastline serves as a picturesque backdrop from this angle where you could see the back and front of the mosque. For me, this is also the best and perfect spot to take your wonderful shots. At the left side of the mosque is the towering minaret used to project the Muslim call to prayer and it was also very aesthetic. The minaret also has a dome and several arched roofs at its base matching the ornate style of the mosque.

After spending some lovely time in the beachfront we proceeded back to the main entrance and along the way you will pass into a beautiful pathway lined with trees and plants. We really enjoyed and marvelled at our visit and the beauty and holistic presence of Malacca Straits Mosque and for me this is one if not of the most beautiful mosques in the world truly integrated into the aesthetics and craftsmanship of Malaysia.

If you have time to visit Malacca then don’t forget to drop by Malacca Straits Mosque because like me for sure you will feel its majestic presence and utmost beauty. Malaysia, truly Asia!!!

Christ Church is the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia. It’s very famous for its location and its red color.

An old but well maintained church. It is just beside the Bayview Hotel which I was staying over the weekend. It is also within walking distance from The Pines, Courtyard and a few other hotels and restaurants.

There is a beautiful garden in the church compound which provides beautiful photos.

    Very serene and peaceful.

The only slight issue is the overzealous church wardens who were can make you feel unwelcome.

The church is looking good after some exterior paintwork and can't be missed in it's location set back a little on Jln Banda Kaba.
The interior is very pretty though with a simple but nicely painted ceiling, and some very lovely stained glass windows.
    quiet and peaceful inside.
You won't regret stopping by for a short visit.

This is worth visiting as there is a mix of different architectural styles, it doesn't really look like a mosque.

An actually good walk up and around and down the hill. Good steps and a good enough trail too. Apparently there are 12000 graves here since the 17th century. Good view from the top.

Situated in one of the alleys of the Harmony Street and built in 1781, the Sri Poyyatha Vinaygar Moorthi Temple is the oldest Hindu Temple in Malaysia. Dedicated to the Lord Ganesh (Vinaygar) this temple is one of the functioning temples of Chitty people, a Tamil sect living in Singapore and Malaysia. It is said that the land was donated by the Dutch rulers of old Melaka to build the small but beautiful temple.

I was lucky as I went there during opening hours and could offer puja and see the whole establishment with the help of one of the priests.

The temple is around two other famous religious installations, Masjid Kampung Kling and Cheng Hoon Teng Temple.

We saw this as part of our day trip to Malacca. It is right next to Hang Li Po Well. When we visited it was very quiet, which was great, but I suspect that as it is part of these tours it can become quite crowded. Very uneven ground, so not great for people with mobility issues. A few stalls selling souvenirs and fruit. Bizarrely we were approached by Western Jehovah's Witnesses - not what we were expecting!

The mosque was worth seeing as part of an easy self guided walking tour of the many temples in the UNESCO area.

Only a small temple but worth a look if you are near Jonker Street. Wouldn't be worth traversing the city for.

Yesterday Angie (my wife) and I attended the wedding of my cousin's son. The wedding was held in a temple started more than 100 years ago, in the district of Cheng, Central Malacca. The temple had recently been extensively and beautifully renovated following the traditional South Indian Dravidian style. History indicates that the temple was started about 120 years a ago by a Hindu saint from South India who settled in Malacca. At the site of the temple this saint performed daily prayers to a Shiva Lingga. The saint was also well versed in traditional Indian herbal medication and successfully treated many local people. Before his passing, the saint handed over the responsibilities of conducting the Lingga prayers to a Nattukotai Chettiar who was also his patient. This chettiar than donated land to build the temple, consecrated to Lord Muruga ( Lord Shiva's son ) in the same vicinity. This temple is particularly popular during Masi Magam when devotees from all over Malaysia and the region flock to offer prayers. Processions of the presiding Deity, breaking of coconuts (to release one's ego) and carrying milk kavadi's are some of the events during this celebration. Mythology indicates that this festival signifies the day that Lord Brahma found the Kumbum (pot) to fill with Amrita (elixir, energy) to recreate the Universe.
My cousin's son Ramesh wed his beautiful bride Priya today in this temple with extensive traditional ceremonies conducted by several priests to bless the union. The temple was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Following Malaysia's multicultural ethnicity friends of the bride and groom from Malay and Chinese backgrounds also attended the temple ceremonies dressed in beautiful sarees. A sumptuous vegetarian lunch was served after the wedding.

Beautiful little temple in Bandar Hilir. Carvings are fascinating. Great little plot of land too. We were surprised to see nobody around when we explored the place. But this place is really very well maintained.
