We had 10 people on the Bentley and the instructions were clear and thorough. The bay was very entertaining and fun to explore. Snorkeling on the point, checking out the big ships near the harbor. Snorkeling on sand bars. It was all so much fun. When we left of course we left some towels. The owners drove up after business hours and retrieved them for us. - Leslie H2 contributionsMy husband and I contacted Captain Mark, after a Google search, late evening during our vacation to ask about availability for a scalloping charter during scallop season. Captain Mark responded immediately with his phone number and availability. Captain Mark was very easy to communicate with and easy to locate at the dock with a reasonable price for a private charter, gear included (if you are a germaphobe, bring your own snorkel). Captain Mark's boat was clean and ready to go as soon as we arrived. Captain Mark knew right where to take us to find the most scallops. He got in the water with us to show us how to move about, find, and pick up scallops. Once we got the hang of it, he turned us loose. Captain Mark let us keep any scallops he found as well! Once we were done collecting the scallops, Captain Mark took the time to shuck our scallops for us (with little help) while still on the water. My husband learned how to shuck scallops from Captain Mark. All that was left to do was take our bag of shucked scallops home with us and cook them. Yum! - MinnesotaGirl2009038Rogers, MN22 contributionsSix of us rented a pontoon boat for an afternoon from Clint. He was awesome! He showed us how to drive the boat and how to get out of trouble if we got stuck, which we did. The water was mostly gorgeous with rays and dolphins everywhere, but we would be zipping along and suddenly get beached! It was hilarious to us because we are so used to Minnesota lakes which of course are shallow by the shores, not right in the middle. We had so much fun beaching the boat and walking around in the shallow water. It was really fun, one of the best highlights of our trip to the Cape San Blas area. Don't worry if you are inexperienced at boating, you cannot really get into too much trouble in these waters. We returned the boat unharmed, with big smiles on our faces. We were able to find many shells and horse shoe crabs! Scallop season hadn’t started yet. A local sportsmen who grew up in the Port St Joe area, he's highly knowledgeable not just about the fishing but also about the marine life in general and has a deep understanding of the marine biology of the area--his mom was a marine biologist as well. Extremely knowledgeable about the local history as well, great fun to listen to his stories. He's fully committed to finding fish and helping his guests land them. We've been on multiple trips with him and never failed to catch fish. Most importantly though, we always come away with more knowledge and a deeper appreciation for the ecosystem and sea life of the area. - K T1 contributionGreat time on the water with Capt. Lee. After a short boat ride we parked in shallow waters and went on to catch a mackerel, about eight trout, and several good-sized sharks.
Capt. Lee was professional and patient, and his knowledge of the waters made it a great morning. The sail was great, relaxing way to finish an active beach vacation. Captain Terrell was extremely knowledgeable of the area and explained the process of sailing as needed. We saw rays, dolphins, a turtle, a shark, and maybe spinner sharks! The lunch was great too! - Mark S4 contributionsYou will definitely not regret (most likely) booking a trip with Captain Hal Tarpley! He will no doubt put you on plenty of fish. His knowledge and passion for inshore fishing the panhandle waterways is extremely impressive and he consistently out fishes bait guides with artificial only. Fishing aside, you will be entertained. Capt. Hal has no filter (hence previous most likely reference) and his stories and quick wit will keep you laughing. The entertaining persona and frequent bent rods are more than you can ask for! This is why I have never booked another inshore fishing guide after my first trip with Capt. We had three kids and he made sure they had a wonderful time. - Belton ZColumbia, SC10 contributionsMy two grown sons and I spent a day bay fishing with Captan Kenny. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the bay. But more importantly, he is a kind, patient and extremely helpful guide. Lots of fun. And lots of fish. He uses a simple, open boat for the bay trip. The bigger boat is for offshore.
