If you want to experience a Korean traditional architecture, I’d suggest visiting Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. By visiting here, you can experience the well-preserved buildings in harmony with nature. The best thing about this place is that you can walk around the whole place for free. Since Suwon is not that far away from Seoul, it didn’t take long time to get to this place. When I visited this place, the weather was great, which was perfect for sightseeing. Unique characteristics of Hwaseong made my trip Interesting and not boring. Also, the overwhelming night view made me think of visiting once more. It’s well worth a visit.

This was a fun museum to take the kids to. Kids and adult alike were amazed when they showed the advancements in technology over the years. I loved seeing the evolution of the television from the huge boxes to the flat screens as well as the mobile phones. It was a fun place to see.

I stayed in an apartment overlooking Gwanggyo Lake Park and walked there most days of my stay. It was August and the temperature was like walking into a solid wall of heat. When walking in the daytime the lake was most quiet apart from families taking advantage of the spouts of water to cool off young children. At nighttime families and couples and everyone come out to walk around and take some exercise out of the day time sun. At night time the lake is lit up and looks beautiful. In the daytime the cicadas sing and the noise is, at times, deafening. It felt very safe walking around the lake, even when on my own. I stayed for a week and walked around the lake lots of times, and each time I was able to vary my route as there are so many different paths.

This is Hwaseong's water gate to defend water suppy and prevent attack from the river. One among many nicely restored structure in the old walled city, Hwahongmun is a remarkable stop while exploring this hidden gem.

It’s a scenic gate with a beautiful ceiling inside. Grab a coffee just inside the gate and enjoy the contrast of old and new Korea.

No fee. A park on poops and toilet during the old days.
The only problem is the location, not close to the other suwon attractions.

Wonderful. A truly peaceful setting amidst the hustle and bustle of every day life. The architecture is stunning, and the sheer peacefulness of the place will take away any stress you have from your life. I went there this evening and loved it. It is conveniently located, very safe and when you get hungry, there are plenty of restaurants near by to help you satisfy your hunger.

I've been many times on these mountain trails with both family and friends and they still make me happy to go back.

With many different paths and some lovely observation points it gives you a nice perspective of the Suwon area.

Be prepared for a bit of a hike though as you should give yourself a good 2-3 hours of time to circle back around as it is a long way.

Most people hiking make this a pleasant experience however you may encounter a noisy school excursion that could dampen the atmosphere a little.

The beautifully restored structure and surrounding open field at the northeastern corner of Hwaseong is the training ground of troops and royal guards. Yeonmudae is the place to practise archery and martial arts in preparation of war or invasion. This will also be the first point of interest for visitors coming from Seoul.

Hwaseong's west gate is a less remarkable fare when compared with the other three. Hwaseomun is a neat structure that guards the Joseon walled city. A landmark when exploring the UNESCO heritage.
