- terrsallWaterloo, IN621 contributionsWasn't sure if this site would be worth the trip but I was wrong. Lots to do here and many great photo's to take. A lot of walking but if your in decent shape it's not that bad. Several trail options thru beautiful wooded area's. The rangers are very helpful and can tell you what to do. Au Sable river is beautiful but you have to put in a little work to see it. Worth the trip!Written 17 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DTLivonia, MI14 contributionsThis was an amazing place to visit! The springs are in the middle of a national forest on the banks of the Au Sable River, so the views are gorgeous. There are 300 stairs to go down, so be cautious…you have to climb back up them! But it is well worth the effort. It was not crowded when I went and the weather was perfect, so it was very peaceful and calming. There are a few small waterfalls as you go down, and boardwalks to walk along when you reach the bottom. You won’t be sorry you came!Written 15 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- cju1979Nashville, TN57 contributionsReally quick...I'm from New England. This beach is better than 99% of what the Northeast has. The sand is perfect. The water of Huron is clear and there is plenty of room to spread out here with friends, family, have a picnic, hang out at the accompanying park (they are also building a Hotel within a stone's throw that should be complete by 2024). There is a bathhouse, rest room, a snack and drink vendor and a cute little coffee shop, Oscodo Museum and vintage movie theatre with a couple blocks as well. It's pretty easy to spend the whole afternoon here. Highly recommended beach that rivalled anything on Mackinac Island. Possibly the best beach on Michigan's east coast as a lot of these pictures don't do it justice.Written 10 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Linda LMidland, MI26 contributionsThis visit was a positive experience. The volunteers who maintain and staff the aviation museum at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base are knowledgeable and passionate about aviation history. They have stories to tell that make the history come alive.
The museum is open three days a week, four hours each of those days. Plan your visit, it’s worth the effort.
Check out the gift shop. It’s well-stocked with quality items. I chose airplane earrings from their jewelry collection.
It was well worth the drive to visit Oscoda and the Wurtsmith Air Museum.Written 19 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The view of the Lake and Springs was awesome.Written 12 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- witchbroomstickBay City, MI383 contributionsThere were very few waterfowl geese on the main mardh and blue winged teal along the swamp area. No warblers, did see an eagle. Also saw a coyote and a box turtle.Written 9 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- cju1979Nashville, TN57 contributionsMy wife and I were walking around Oscoda visiting the cute Ice cream shoppe, the vintage movie theatre and the picturesque beach when we came upon this hidden treasure a few feet from each of the places above. Overall, my wife and I spent over an hour having a great conversation (with Frank and his sister I believe, I hope I remember correctly as they were friendly beyond measure) with the volunteers who set up and run this museum. They only ask for a small donation to enter and you can learn so much about the culture, people and (amazingly huge) events centered here. There's more stuff on Native Americans, Immigrants, military, US history and local oddities packed into one place than I've seen at more established "museums." Truly worth the stop if you're passing through or in town for a bit if you're interested in anything listed above, especially appreciating local history and culture. Many thanks for taking the time and I hope you guys can figure out how to take card as many items in the gift shop are super affordable and unfortunately, I only had a few bucks on me.Written 27 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JACKIE3 contributionsOscoda is a wonderful fami.y area. There is a beautiful wide public beach. The food choices are from McDonald's to Bill o Fare. - TiffyWaterford, MI4 contributionsWe go to Hunts at least once a year. The service is always friendly and they have even let us bring our paddle boards and dropped us off at the launch site.Written 9 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BHartMichNorthville, MI694 contributionsWe played the Blackshire course as part of a golf package with Lakewood Shores Resort. We also played the Gailes. We really preferred the Blackshire layout and total experience much better. The service levels here were way better, and the layout takes you back by the clubhouse at the turn in case you want to get something to eat. People here cared about how the customers were doing. We did not have that same experience at the Gailes.
The course itself is cut through the woods and has a nice look to many of the holes. There are a couple of tricked up holes -- 1 & 2 specifically, where it is really hard to know where to hit the ball to navigate the blind shots or uncertain distances to problem areas. But after the opening holes, we enjoyed the layout.
Course conditions were very good -- nice fairways and greens. The bunkers could use some work, but they have had a lot of rain recently, so they get a total pass on that. All in all, it was nice. We had a good time, and would much prefer playing this course over the Gailes.Written 29 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Unfortunately there were several loud and drunk groups of college age men who managed to turn the lodging area and par 3 course into an obnoxious frat party. The dinning was horrendous. We ordered the special which was Airline Chicken. Airline beer nuts would have been better. My uncle refused to eat it and sent it back. Disappointing considering how nice the dinning facility is.
The Gailes didn’t disappoint. We thought the course was amazing, a real treat and a pleasant surprise. It lives up to its billing. However, none of the holes have a number on the Tee Box and that got confusing. It was the same with the Saredella. (We didn’t play Blacksire.). You don’t go near the clubhouse until the end of the round. The beer cart girl graciously brought out some hotdogs. The beer carts would be a great opportunity to correct the food problem but they were just regular carts with coolers strapped to them.
This club badly needs some rangers to move play along and expel the drunks. The frat party moved to the course in the morning turning it into a rolling version of Animal House. Groups between 5 and 8 were allowed to hit the course complete with boom boxes and loud vulgar language. Fortunately we got off before the worst of it but our play slowed as the group ahead of us got more and more inebriated. You could follow their progress by the empty Jell-O shot and single shot liquor bottles.
This resort could be something special under management that put some money into it and enforced generally accepted golf course etiquette. Would I go back? Absolutely, the Gailes is a golf experience not to be missed.Written 14 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dennis ROscoda, MI178 contributionsDuring our recent visit to the Hilltop, our meal was very good. We have dined here several times over the past 25 years. Our only complaint is that the service was lacking. Wait staff NEVER wiped down the table after prior patrons left and she rarely came to the table to take new drink/food orders. It was, however, a busy weekend night. Additional wait staff was needed.Written 19 December 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Wendy G1 contributionOscoda Canoe was fully booked, so I decided to try North Country. What I liked was that they told us right off the bat they were running behind. They were very nice about it, and had us on the river only about 20 minutes later than I had expected.
The young gal driving the bus was knowledgeable, informative, and really nice. We knew exactly where to disembark, which is a nice, easy-to-land, sandy area. The porta potty was clean. The parking was nice. No complaints!Written 16 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
