This mountain what’s called cirques, or caldera’s. Maido is about 2000 meters tall and there are scattered villages at the halfway level with only their legs for transportation. Many hikers climb one km up to the village and spend a night or two in kind of B&Bs there. Fit people also bike up the narrow road up to the mountain top.

I'm lucky to have visit a part of this beauty by being a part of the Grand Raid 2019 race (Trail de Bourbon)...the terrain is hard and technical but the nature is breathtaking and unique ... The last day of our staying on the island we took a helicopter flight, and admiret the views all from the sky, I racomend it!!!

This is easily accessible from the main road, the views are wonderful and if you climb down there is at least one pool you can swim in. You can even take a picnic to have above the rocks afterwards.

Interesting small graveyard, with poets, writers, a pirate and other historical people inside the walls, and and a slave graveyard outside. Lovely location on. Black sand beach. Easy parking opposite.

I absolutely loved this part of the excursion and it really is rustic, but the gift shop, perfumes, are all great, The facilities are a bit ordinary but that only shows that it is the start of a new business by an old family. Isabella's is the one now experimenting with the fragrances and who knew that the old geranium was such a beautiful fragrances. You are shown how they distill it and its simple but very interesting. There is a small cafe to get drinks and food and its all tasty. As well as purchasing some fragrances, I also asked Isabella if they had anything for my husbands psoriasis and she came back with a potion and I got instructions etc from her - its all very good and I wish her well with her new ventures, but I still hope that it stays with that simple touch, Good luck, and for any tourists - don't miss it

The hotel we stayed recommended us to visit this place which is about 10km away from the hotel! We took their advice, hired a taxi, and went there around mid-day. We went all the way there and found no birds at all so we were very disappointed! Then we asked nearby shop why we don’t see any birds, then that woman said we should come very early hours i.e. like before 06:00 hrs. or else evening just before the dark. She said all birds flying out in the morning to find food and return only in the evening! Sadly hotel did not tell us before we leaving which time is the best to visit!
