I took my class to the AJ Read Science Discovery Center and it was an amazing experience. My students loved the hands-on exploration. The staff at the center were very helpful in showing students how to interact with the different exhibits. explaining the science in a way that not only engaged my students but also in a way where they understood and felt empowered to ask questions. After the AJ Read Science Discovery Center, we were lucky enough to be able to go to the planetarium and explore the solar system with a show that was geared toward what my students had been learning about and their interests. Ms. Rutenbeck was very patient and answered question after question while taking us on a journey through the solar system.

We are so lucky to have this amazing resource in our community. I loved taking my children here when they were little and now I'll be planning yearly field trips with my class.

The narrative from the NYS Parks website indicates the following.

"Robert V. Riddell State Park offers more than 2,000 acres of fields and forested woodlands located in the Susquehanna River Valley. The park is named for Robert V. Riddell of Coliersville who believed that we are caretakers of the land and that we should pass it on, undeveloped to future generations.
The park offers a variety of family-friendly passive recreational opportunities. As part of an extensive statewide trail network, it is a preferred destination for hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts. Additional activities include bird-watching, snowshoeing and fishing."

My comments are the following. It is just off I-88 and is very easy to get to. However, as a result you can hear the traffic when in the park. The park has a rest room, picnic tables, a barbecue, and benches. While I was there I saw dog walkers and bird watchers. There is easily room for 12 cars in the lot, and the lot was full when I was there, so evidently this is a popular park. It was also buggy and I am glad I used insect repellent.

NYS Parks, however, could improve the signage at the front of the park (see attached photo), as it barely provides any information and the trail map is a faded piece of paper posted on the board. It literally pales in comparison to what I have seen at other parks of comparable size.

This field has been in Oneonta for a long time! It used to be a Class A ballpark for a New York Yankees minor league team. It now has a New York collegiate summer league playing games at the park. If you like old time ballparks this is the place for you. The admission cost is minimal, the parking is free and the food is not bad. A fun experience!

This rink is an excellent rink to skate for anyone near and far. I love it. I went for a Red Barn Skate Reunion (that rink is a dead rink), so I went for that and to evaluate for my website, Dead-Rinks. And I love this place. I scared it at 9.1 out of 10. I use zero to 10 system although this site and another site use 1 to 5. So, this site, 5 out of 5!

Eric, the owner and his wife are very friendly, I understood them as I read lips since I am Deaf. I found the rink floor smooth although they are going to work on it this summer. I love the design and the layout. Very fresh décor for a rink that is over 35 years. Renovation they had in past yes. Including new carpet 3 years ago.

Very friendly staff and even skaters there! I am from Syracuse which is about 3 hours backroad driving through to reach there (no direct highway) and I would be back. I recommend you too stop by and skate at this awesome rink. I dont know the cost of admission because I was invited in for evaluations and the reunion that was covered by the group. I believe it is fair priced.

They have "Christmas" string lights decorated above the rink giving a romantic mood feel and not some crazy black lights or too wild disco lights.

They use Roll-On 2000 finishing on the floor. It is a type of urethane coating. Very smooth although repair will be done soon. Smoothest Maple I ever skated in long time. I took a lot of pictures and posted on my site about this wonderful rink. A few I will share here. It is copyrighted by me.

We recently took our grandkids to the Delaware Otsego Audubon Sanctuary and we had a blast - from the bog walk to scoping our Monarch butterfly eggs and caterpillars, we didn't run out of places to explore!

In 1996, when we moved to Oneonta, we went to Emmons Pond Bog with friends and even today, 24 years later, we love the bog to explore and enjoy a wonderful family hike! From ages 2-66 everyone was so happy with their day today!

We should come to the New Island Trail more often - not the easiest to access, but well worth the effort! You can enter from Southside or from Catella Park. Fabulous views of the Susquehanna River and at times, you lose yourself and forget you're so close to town or near the Interstate!

Formerly a small airport, then and RC Flier Airport, Fortin Park has emerged to being one of the finest town parks in the county! With hangers and smaller pavilions to rent and two playgrounds, with so much open space makes this a wonderful spot for all ages!

Yes, all the old paintings are ok. Yawn. But what is outstanding here is the extensive collection of native American artifacts...predominately from the region. They have an arrowhead collection where they have identified origins based on the stone types. Also many other types of small stone carvings. A real treasure!
Hours are limited so check before going out of your way. Also its on a college campus and it appeared that there were only two designated spots for the museum.
    No charge.

There's so much to see and do in this park - from strolling around Hodges Pond to a child friendly playground to multiple baseball and soccer fields to the skate park...not to forget Damaschke Field, home of the Oneonta Outlaws! Special events such as the Balloon Fest, First Night and others make this a place to take your family for sure!

We were there when it was supposed to be open Sunday between 1 and 3 but no one was there except for another gentleman that wanted to tour the house. I think we would have really enjoyed it if it was open and the docent was there. I answered all the questions below as if toured the residence.
