What travellers are saying
- Phil WAdelaide, Australia686 contributionsNice place to visit with children. Animals well cared for by the owners who are very friendly. The farm could do with a bit of a revamp but overall a good day out. Enjoyed our picnic lunch sitting next to a large playground.Written 2 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - branham2016Adelaide, Australia6,139 contributionsThis is where the waters from the Murray and Darling River Basin end up prior to the mouth of the river in the Coorong. There is a lot of information here both historical and interest. Seems there were infosigns everywhere including a brass relief map showing the position of the four barrages at Goolwa.
By the time you walk from the entrance to where you step onto the walkway over the barrage, you will have seen signs about all the locks and dams from the start of the river system to Goolwa. The lawns are well kept and with pines nearby making for a great picnic spot. Thereās even a BBQ available and undercover seating. Parking is very close to the Barrages and a wide smooth path to the walkway over the barrages.
The day I was there was overcast and very misty giving an aura of mystery. Even the boat used for dredging the mouth was in dock.
A pleasant and educational visit that I would encourage all to make to the Goolwa Barrages.Written 3 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DadandCabCoffs Harbour, Australia1,210 contributionsFollowed signage to the āhistoric wharfā & hadnāt realised we were already standing on it when we were distracted by the brewery. Decided to take a look inside and confess we were already sold when we saw their ātoastiesā menu. Suddenly the beer was a secondary concern. One chicken & camembert & one godfather toastie later, a couple of local craft beers & we were set for the afternoon. Staff were great & in addition they put up a board showing the expected wait time for food. Recommended.Written 22 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

We were there on the 1st Sunday in May to have a wander. Parking is a bit limited. It's not big (it has two walkways that take you in a circuit - and under COVID restrictions it is a one-way system) but there was a nice variety of crafts, jewellery, plants, clothing, produce and food. I bought some proteas. I also liked how it was near the Goolwa station for the Cockle train so it is also easy to view that at the same time.Written 24 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - branham2016Adelaide, Australia6,139 contributionsThis playground is simply stunning in itās concept, design, craftsmanship, creativity and location. Right in the banks of Lake Alexandrina with a view, even more so when it is not foggy as it was when we passed through. The area is technically named āBristow Smith Reserve Nature Playspaceā. A Google search had identified that Bristow Smith refers to āReginald (Reg) H. Bristow-Smithā a former Council Clerk of the Alexandrina Council from 1939.
But I digress. There are so many play equipment pieces in a reasonably small place with paths allowing to flow from one piece to another easily. The highlight has to be the 10 metre long restored wooden fishing boat where kids can be captains, maybe a pirate or two as well. There is a lot to explore. Including a tree sculpture adjacent. It is amazing as to what a talented artists can do! Play a game of spot the animals ā there are many and some look like they in disguise.
BBQ, a filtered water station, some seating and a huge lawned area adjacent. Toilet facilities are on the other side of the lawned area.
Plenty of parking is around and if the phone runs low from taking so many photos, a charging station is nearby.Written 3 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
