We were given a tour of the farm, and then given a bag and allowed to go around and pick plumeria (after being taught which ones were the best to pick) Then, we were given a hands-on tutorial of lei making, and we all left with a beautiful self-made lei. It was an enjoyable morning

We got here while exploring Molokaii.

The church is part of a long history and tells a great story.

Worth to stop for a few minutes.

Nice clean beach. Long reef and rocky so you have to be careful not to step on any coral--know what you are doing. Mostly shallow.

The harbor of Molokai is not a large or busy port, but part of a small, quaint community with some of the most friendly and family orientated people around. The views from the harbor up towards the mountains and coast is simply amazing.

It was great to visit this tiny church.

It can use a bit of some maintenance though,

    Great experience.

This is one of the temple sights where human sacrifice took place. It dates from 1300 AD and possibly earlier. Not too much different from other heiau sites throughout the islands.

We took the tour to the waterfall and it was absolutely amazing. Dress to cross a river (shoes will get wet). You do need to be able to go over or under fallen trees. There is a beautiful pool of water that you can get in and refresh at the waterfall. The hike is about 2-3 miles each way. When you return to the flower farm, you are treated to smoothies. The owner used to own a smoothie stand in Hana, so they are delicious and refreshing. The flowers are stunning. He also treated us to his homemade dark chocolate. Great day trip with a breathtaking drive to get there!

Two beaches in Molokai are "beach snorkelable," with the other being Dixie Maru on the far southwest side. Murphy Beach (aka Waialua) is great for kids, as it is shallow, probably maximum 3ft out 100 ft and protected especially inside the old rock wall rubble. Almost no fish inside the rock pile. Outside, there are few, so intermediate to advance snorkelers probably not so happy due to fish shortage. However, there are small fragments of colorful coral and the shallow waters make the beach great for kids. There also are some good shade trees to rest beneath. Wheelchair accessibility would only be one of the new rugged terrain wheelchairs or to stay in one of the parking areas, which is doable.

The coconut palms are there but that is about it. However, this is the place to go to get a coconut if you want to mail a coconut home.

If you are shopping in town this is worth a stop. It's in the middle of town and taken well care of.

Very long beach with nice sand. You need a good pair of beach shoes to wade or swim because of the rocks and stones in the surf

Drive to Kawela Battlefield by keeping to right to end below water tower. Good walk up to water tower with awesome views of the ocean and Lanai!! 1000s died fighting King Kamehameha there. Bones and artifacts are still being found. DO NOT remove anything from the area so archeologists can research it.

In the past one could lather up with mosquitoe repellant and enjoy a nice hike up to the water falls. We did it for years. Recently however, some of the local residents prohit crossing through their lands to get there --- unless you pay and arm and a leg for a guided tour. Still a great experience through a real rain forest with petroglyphs and old home sites and heiaus. Moaula Falls always has water falling. I haven't been there since about 1985 but used to go a number of times a year.

Refuge has been "mothballed" for lack of funding. Kiawe and cattails have completely taken over the former wetlands. Much of the water dried up when development above on the hillside tapped into the water table. There is no longer any habitat for the native waterbirds and migratory birds it was set aside to protect.

First and foremost, unless you are Hawaiian do not attempt to go here. The owners of the ranch don't even approach this site. View from a distance only.

Lanikaula was a kahuna who befriended a traitor from Lanai. His rival kahuna discovered where he buried his waste and took some home to burn it.

When Lanikaula saw the blue fire from the Ana Ana Kahuna's fire across the water he knew he was going to die. He asked his sons to bury him in a special way.

They placed his body under a kukui grove so his bones wouldn't be dug up and used as fish hooks. Kukui's are kapu so no man would touch them.

You can view the grove from a spot across the road from the ranch store. Climb up on the field edge and you'll see the tree tops in the distance.

Another good viewing place is north of Kapalua on Maui. Look across the channel at Molokai and you'll see the tall kukui trees on the horizon.
