My friend and I did this tour in mid-March 2024. We had the best day! Started out on a mid-size Gray Line tour bus, with the wonderful Heather as our driver. She knew so much about San Francisco it was actually incredible. I couldn't believe all the stats and details she knew! She took us over the Golden Gate Bridge on our way to Napa. We stopped briefly in Sausalito for a bathroom break before our trek to the first winery - Roche Winery. We started in their little courtyard with a knowledgable bearded guru telling us a little about the winery and our first wine, which was a lovely Chardonnay. He then took us through the fermentation and barrelling process, with different wine tastings along the way. We tried everything from the Chard to a Rose to a Pinot and a delicious Merlot. Then we ended in their courtyard sitting under bright orange umbrellas with a beautiful little garden surrounding us. It was a great way to start the wine tour!
After one more winery stop (Muscardini), we stopped for lunch in Sonoma. We had about an hour or so to have lunch (stopped at Mary's Pizza which was excellent!) and shop around the sweet little town of Sonoma. I would have loved to spend a whole day there, but that will have to be another trip!
Then our final winery destination was Madonna Estate. While I wasn't the biggest fan of their wines, others seemed to really like them and the tour was fun.
We started back to San Francisco around late afternoon. Since we didn't get to stop at the park on our way across the bridge (stopped in Sausalito instead since the park on the other side of the bridge was closed), we stopped on the other side on our way back. Got some great photos of the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge and we even had 2 ladies on our tour whose relative was part of the team who built the bridge! So that was pretty special.
Heather dropped us back off near Ghirardelli Market and we had a quick bite at In 'n Out Burger to soak up some of the day's tastings! All in all, an excellent day of learning about the Bay and Napa area, enjoying some delicious wine, and meeting some great people. Highly recommend!!!
