What travellers are saying
- Jeff MBurlington, Canada38 contributionsWe had an unplanned morning during our trip to N.O. so we decided to take the street car up to the park. Our main goal was to have coffee and beignets at the Cafe Du Monde in the park instead of fighting the crowds at the main location. That plan worked out well as there were only a couple people in line in front of us when we arrived around 9am. It did fill in but nowhere close to what it was like at the main location.
After our breakfast we strolled around the immediate area. We only explored the areas in the south end of the park but there was lots to see. There are some beautiful bridges over the water and the McDonogh Oak was close by (over 800 years old).
The real surprise was the free Sculpture Garden. The gates opened at 10am and there is a LOT of sculptures to look at in an extremely well manicured grounds. Well worth your time.
After the sculpture garden we walked west through the park, took a nice swing on one of the many bench swings, then headed out of the park to visit the Hurricane Katrina Memorial and some of the nearby cemeteries.
You could easily spend a full day in the park. We barely scratched the surface. Take the 48 street car (Green route) to the Museum of Art stop (it's the last stop on the route) and it is a short walk to Cafe Du Monde or the Sculpture Garden. If you find yourself at the west end of the park it is only a short walk to the 47 street car (red route) Cemeteries Transit Terminal, which will take you back down Canal to the French Quarter area.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Only minor concern was being near a golf course and seeing a sign that basically tells you there is a risk of getting hit with golf balls and or golf carts.Written 16 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mr P DNew Orleans, LA16 contributionsOn Bourbon street - but family friendly. Excellent place to get a cocktail or coffee and beignet and listen to local jazz. Don't forget to tip the band. Come back in the morning for your coffee and beignet breakfast.Written 17 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - James C47 contributionsBeautiful park we visited as part of a walking tour. Our guide touched on the vast history relevant to the area, but I’m sure a deeper dive would make a visit even more interesting. Also, lots of great old huge trees if that is your thing.Written 15 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Matt SBrighton, MI2,435 contributionsThe riverfront park was a great place to stretch our legs, especially after beignets and coffee and the adjacent Cafe Du'Monde. The views of downtown New Orleans, being alongside the Mississippi River, the views across the river, and further down the river, all made for an enjoyable walk. This popular stretch is a great place to break away from the bustle of New Orleans.Written 22 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DutchLaceHolland, MI753 contributionsNice area to park and walk to French Market. Approximately 1.5 mile one way paved walking. After walking stairs up and over the railroad tracks, it opens to a beautiful walk along the river.Written 16 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jake23New Jersey6,523 contributionsNice views of the murky Mississippi. Walk down if you want a nice stroll by the river. Close to Jackson Swuare as well so it’s still close to all the attractions.Written 12 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - aferryNew Orleans, LA242 contributionsI gave this area (The Fly) a good rating for its peaceful view of the Mississippi River and its open playing fields for raucus children's games. Usually, one cannot hear the children if one seated on the river bank or in a gazebo. The Fly is quite proximate to the Audubon Zoo and is a good site to descend from the excitement of taming lions.Written 10 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mary KBuckner16 contributionsAfter exploring the French Quarter , hearing awesome music and eating amazing food, the lake front park offered a great walking path and slow paced atmosphere that helped us relax.Written 27 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - StephenCrossDublin, Ireland18,526 contributionsInteresting park that sits in a residential area near the little garden district. Nice fountain and good open spaces. Worth a look.Written 14 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Gequita RNashville, TN626 contributionsWhile visiting this beautiful city we rested at this cute little park. The people were friendly and we struck up a conversation with a sweet little Canadian girl about American politics. The little children seemed to enjoy it and the weather was beautiful. I enjoyed the park immensely.Written 28 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Leanne BGainesville, FL248 contributionsIf you have ANYBODY in your family that has struggled with breast cancer - whether they conquered or lost their battle - then this is one place you won't want to miss. Only takes a few minutes to walk through the small plaza and see it, but it's well worth a visit. Beautiful bronze statues.Written 13 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Geoff HSissinghurst, UK12,682 contributionsJust an average park on Decatur Street near to the French Market. Two interesting-looking water features but, unfortunately, neither of these was working on the day I was there. Plenty of benches for sitting in the sun (or lying and having a sleep). OK in the daytime but I wouldn't venture there after dark.Written 23 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Geoff HSissinghurst, UK12,682 contributionsA triangular shaped park on Decateur Street shaded by trees, with some benches. In the centre is an interesting statue of Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the Founder of New Orleans. Worth seeking out if only to have a look at the statue.Written 23 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AndreiRiver Ridge, LA1,300 contributionsLocated in the West Bank neighborhood of Tall Timbers-Brechtel, this quiet park feels worlds away from the bustle of the French Quarter and Central Business District of New Orleans. It is a calming place to get away from the city for a while and take a walk through the woods or just relax.
The park is currently undergoing some renovations, though, so some parts that were previously open are closed off and full of construction equipment. Still, I found enough to do here for a couple of hours. Between taking walks underneath the huge trees that grow here and feeding the gaggle of ducks and geese that live by the water in the park, it was a fun, relaxing morning activity. It costs a dollar to get in the park, two dollars on weekends. I love the city's parks, so I was happy to pay and support their renovation project. Keep in mind also if you plan to visit that the park is closed on Wednesdays and is open an hour longer (until 6 PM) in the warmer months of the year.Written 16 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
