Always one of our favorite beaches on our trips to Maui. Short, powerful waves crash of the shore making a lovely sound. If you get just past the break, you can float in the water and the waves roll up. Not many young kids come to this beach. The waves are much too strong for them. We saw a group of dolphins or porpoise playing around and jumping out to the water while we were swimming out there.
Suggest bringing a sun umbrella, cooler with some ice cold drinks, and lots of sunscreen. There is not much shade.

This was our favorite beach! We spent a couple days exploring the island and many beaches and this was by far the best. Parking is easy and free, sand is clean and water was perfect, just gentle enough for little kids to be able to enjoy it without parents freaking out the whole time. One drawback when comparing would be snorkeling. You can't complain about pure sand, and I am not but there was only sand. I have read about snorkeling way further out and along the rockier edges but I didn't get there which was fine. We loved the area and if we get the chance to return to Maui, this is where we will want to be.

Great walking path with beautiful views. Can get crowded so be patient. There are plenty of places to stop and grab food, etc on your way. It passes most of the popular hotels in the area.

This is a beautiful beach and so long that it doesn’t feel crowded. It’s busier near the car park entrances but if you walk a little you’ll find a quiet spot. Lots of families enjoying the sea - the wind picked up later on so you need to be careful with the rocks.

Beautiful beach, with showers and restrooms. Surf was gentle but fun. Water was clear blue, shore was not rocky.
We found parking easily at 10 AM but could see that it would be challenging if you show up later.
There was some decent shade in parts but best bring an umbrella

There's a bit of a climb over rock, but if you like 'lots of sun' on your body, this is the spot. Surfers like this beach; there are frequently turtles; and, it's a relaxing spot on Maui.

We arrived just after 8am and saw a couple of green turtles nearly straight away. One was quite large - they are a little intimidating as they come out of nowhere! Fantastic to see though along with the fishes - stick to the rocks at either end of the beach for the best chance of seeing turtles - I saw five in total. Fantastic experience!
The beach is lovely too - there are proper toilets and a shower near the south end and the car park is only a short distance away.

This is secluded and quiet. Not shops or crowds of people. You do have to walk a little to get there. Good for relaxing; the actual swimming wasn’t the best. Waves were far out and there are rocks as you go in. But if you just want to relax and enjoy the sand and pass time - I recommend it here. A part of the beach is clothing optional - which is good to know if you are into or not into that.

This shopping center was clean, had good seating, and a great selection of stores. It was a fun stop just walking distance from our resort. We wanted to go first thing in the morning so we would have time to make it to the beach but most of the stores didn't open until 10 or later.

This small beach park has a rocky shoreline and a quite small beach. What it lacks in a sandy beach is more than compensated by being a great place to snorkel and/or scuba dive. One of its most notable features is it being one of the most accessible coral reefs in Maui.

This is a nice beach which is more popular with locals than tourist. It is not as long as some other beaches in the area, and it is somewhat steeper. There is a short trail to the beach. Park by the porta-potty on Makena Rd. There is good shade where the trail meets the beach. Snorkeling on the south end is very good all the way to Po’olenalena Beach.

Gosh this beach is gorgeous! Sugary sand, no development, and gin clear water. Just please know that there’s a seriously steep break which in my opinion as an experienced body surfer and beach goer is NOT for amateurs. Enjoy the views but stay out of the waves if you don’t know what you’re doing!

This is such a beautiful beach in Maui but be beware there can be a pretty strong rips here, and the waves can be quite treacherous. Also there is no life guard on duty so take that into consideration before swimming at Po'olenalena Beach if you are unsure about the conditions, particularly if you are swimming in the afternoon when the waves and rip seemed to be stronger. We were lucky enough to see a wedding while we were at this beautiful beach too. There is plenty of easy parking too which I always appreciate. Beautiful beach!!

    First of all.. MAKENA COVE…
PA’AKO BEACH.., SECRET COVE .. are one and the same!
It’s a well kept secret and a jewel ! A small secluded cove .. with a sandy beach flanked by lava rocks .. a magical place during sunset !
No wonder weddings are held here .. we witnessed one when we were there for sunset!
The cove is south of the big Makena beach.. drive slowly past the beach till you get to a stone wall .. just at the pedestrian crossing you will find a small gap in the wall.. enter there .., and viola!!!
Magical scene unfolds before your eyes!
Sunrise is beautiful too behind the palm trees, but sunset is gorgeous!!!

Located in Makena, Maui, the view from this church and grounds cannot be more picturesque. Besides views of the Pacific Ocean, has views of the West Maui Mountains, Lana'i, Kaho'olawe, and the Molokini crater. Founded in 1832, it is one of the oldest churches on Maui. The church was originally built of Pili grass but was rebuilt of stone and wood. Locals refer to it as “the old stone church”. There is a small cemetery on the side closest to the ocean. Some of the grave sites date back to the founding of the church. One of the most interesting is the remains of an ancient Hawaiian woman. In 2004, a columbarium, known as Pō‘aialoha was dedicated. The church is home to an active worshiping congregation with two services on Sundays: one in English and one in Hawaiian.
